Status: offline 		the people choose says alot to me of course, but mine for exemplo is funny because in portuguese it sounds diferent and it has to do with dogs, with the fidelity of dogs, and also with the being small, in english it is k9 and i keep getting people who call me dog... each i hate because people think i'm into dogplay... so next time i really have to think about the impact of the name in english

Status: offline 		I've never understood why people put their age or year of birth in their screen name. Why not their shoe size instead? I have a feeling that if I was looking I would avoid those profiles. I'm somewhat of a creative type and that just seems to highlight a lack of creativity.

I've always read it as "kuh-nee-nuh" (accent on second syllable) and thought it was a pretty name. But then I'm not your target audience. :)

Back on point, I laugh at silly handles, but I don't hold it against the person. I've had some nice conversations with men who had goofy screen names. I think people feel pressured to go bold when they pick a name and frequently come to regret it but don't want to start a whole new profile. Also, the longer you work with a particular screen name, the more you fill it out with your personality and I think people tend to get attached to that image rather than the literal impressions one gets when considering the name in isolation.

I think my screen name is pretty neutral. And it was chosen as such. Just a chick's name.

But yeah...names will make a difference in how I perceive someone. Those first impressions and all.
Take the guy who used a Frank Sinatra song. He's turned out to be a real freak. I shoulda ran fast.

Status: offline 		I never went out looking for certain names or types of names. Sometimes a name communicates something intriguing; sometimes something undesirable. Sometimes it communicates nothing at all.

So do handles matter? Yes, they can, if wisely (or poorly) chosen...but not necessarily.

Status: offline 		I never think about the profile name when replying to a post.  It might be Mrhunglikeahorse and I wouldn't notice it.  I chose my own nic based on the most obvious connection to me, that I am female and a masochist.  If people do not respond based on my nic than I am obviously not doing a good enough job saying what I think.

The first half of this is also how I feel on the matter.  Since I am more likely to notice the screen name of sub males, the second half leans toward those who don't want to appear to have any worth.  I'd completely avoid a screenname such as 'wurthlesswurm' or something to that effect.  A quicker retreat if they have the text speak included such as 'wurthless4u'.

Status: offline 		You know, I'd love to say that screenames really weed out who I will talk to and who I sense is just a waste of time, but it really hasn't worked out like that. I normally avoid the presence of textspeak, numbers, or whole names that are just letters and numbers with no meaning to the viewer. I'd like to say that I avoid the mention of specific dynamics, roles, or fetishes embedded in a screename. Then again, my partner would have failed on both points. I am more interested in what a person has to say and how they present themselves upon communicating. I have seen fascinating screenames with completely blank profiles and I just thought to myself what a shame that was and what a waste of a really great screename. Some people are just better at coming up with them than others. Oh, and for those taking notes, not that I can't/won't play around in being a person's pet, it isn't even a primary interest. It is just all I could come up with on the spot like that. LOL!!! My screename isn't very indicative of anything. Don't judge a book by it's cover, nor by it's title. Open the pages and then decide.

and am REPULSED by some names...
 
 
IF I See...straponslave..shiteater..ashtray ..8"4U....trampleme
I know they focus on ONE thing...
 
IF I See D names with...
kneelbitch or wormboyzwanted I know right away..well...you know??
 
If I See the word serve in it I pay a bit more attention like..
toserveyou..or serve her....they MAY have an idea of what serving is..
 
Things like..dark...devil..666 give another idea to think about..
 
If they have cyber..cam etc they have told you what to expect
 
What I am looking for is something like...

Status: offline 		It does often tell you what it is the other person is into. I'm going to pass by someone with indications of crossdressing in their profile because that's not a kink I enjoy at all.

Mine? It's a name, it has a nice flow to it, and while it isn't the one on my birth certificate it has some ties to important things in my life and so it works for me.

Status: offline 		Sometimes people start off with an ID on another site or even a work network - and stick with it because it would seem fake to have different names in different places - so a name may just be a meaningless tag; - but having said that, though I stuck with this ID for about 20 years over various networks and sites, I've taken a new ID on another site because someone wanted me to have a more meaningful name.
