So for the past month I have been working part time at a Marketing Research Company as a over the phone survey taker…. Yes you heard it right! Lol My company also set’s up paid focus groups and in home paid interviews. But yes once in a while I’m calling people to take a survey over the phone. Actually people aren’t too mean. The meanest thing a man said was that I was too nice. He thought I was an old friend calling and that I had meant to trick him. My face turned red and warm because I never meant to trick him and he was so mean… shh don’t tell anyone but kind of made me teary eyed… So my question is, anyone have any funny story’s about what they did to a survey taker or hey even a telemarketer? But don’t confuse me with a telemarketer I don’t sell anything and I could care less if people don’t want to take my survey J lol

Honestly? I am a telemarketer's worst nightmare. I do not appreciate being harassed and having My time wasted. If I want to hear from you, I will call you. I do not appreciate automatic dialers, computer dialers that call up and then hang up on Me, people calling up "Mr or Mrs Weston" and pretending to be My best friend, whatever. I do not have time for their crap. I do not want their products. I do not want a free bloody trip. I do not want to be entered into a draw. I do not want to be tricked into attending time share seminars. I do not want to answer a stupid survey that results in a follow up call telling Me I won something and all I have to do is go through some idiotic vacuum cleaner sales pitch or seminar. I am sick to death of being harassed all the time. Now, as soon as I hear "Mr. or Mrs Weston" I yell at them. Either I would simply swear under My breath and slam the phone down in their ear, or if I was in a particularly ugly mood I would swear at them and tell them to get a real job, then I slam the phone down on them. Heh. I used to be nice to them and say I am not interested, but that would not shut them up. They would persist.. "But... But... But... We have this super deal right now..." or "it is just a short survey" to which I would respond "what part of "I am not interested" do you not understand?" For the most part they are ignorant and pushy. No more Mr. Nice Guy from Me, now it is blunt and right to the point. Heh. I hope you like your job, but it might be an idea not to call My house if you did not like the response that guy gave you. lol [:D]

lol nah I don't blame people at all. Whenever someone would call me I would say sorry I'm not 18.. hehe I don't enjoy my job but it's good money and experience when attending college. Plus the hrs are really flexible. Some people enjoy talking to me.. But the funny thing is when I set up paid in home interviews... People say "yeah right some guys is going to come to my house for not more than an hour and just watch me open and shut my window and ask me what i like and dislike about them.. not sell me anything and then give me 150 bucks in cash.. my ass.. CLICK" haha its crazy I don't blame them.. but it's really true.. a lot of marketing companies use consumers opions for advertising and nothing else.. hehe silly survey taker tricks are for kids :) SirKenin give me your number I'll call you tomorrow ;)

hahaha. Are you a sucker for punishment? lol [:D] I am glad you are enjoying it though. I am sure that there are companies using the responses for legitimate purposes. It just so happens that I have yet to see one. Like I said, My patience just ran out. I can withstand it for so long, but after all those darn computer dialers and stuff, and people dreaming up new ways to get their hands in My wallet, I just can not take it any more. This is MY phone. The phone is there for MY convenience. It is not there so people can harass Me and invade My privacy. Know what I mean?

lmao I don't blame u at all. I didn't post this thinking I was going to get anyone who likes getting those phone calls at home.. :) I understand I hate the calls too.. People will say take me off your list.. and I just want to say "I'm sorry I don't have the authority to take you out of the phone book" lol that's were we get all our numbers on a online phone book.. My dad is fearless even when people come to the door its SLAM right in their face!

I SO KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN SK LOL! I was getting called all the time before I turned my line ringer off. I almost got sucked into a 5 year magazien long term subscription I was all set to go for it and I asked and how much is that and she's like oh it's 30 dollars a month and my dad looks at me and mouths thirty fucking dollars a month? And he started shaking his head like no pumpkin don't get into it, and I told the lady no it's to much, I was but now I can't, and she said well ok I could make it 29 a month, and I said no that's still to much and she kept saying but I could do this and I could do that and I could throw in two free magaziens, on TOP OF the paid for ones, and are you a student? even if you're not I could technically just for you give you the student rate a month, I said no, layed it all out was very very firm. we hung up. THEY CALLED AGAIN, THAT SAME WEEK, I said no not interested they said why not and I said because I am not interested in a 6 month magazien subscription that Ic an't get out of at any time I wish and that costs a huge amount of money. I hung up. So, someone else SAME DAY SAME COMPANY, called. I said you guys have called me twice today already I am not interested, well why aren't you interestes Ms's moss? I personally think it's rip off. windy when people say take me off your call list, you by law HAVE TO remove their name from the call list. FelinePersuasion,, Hi! We don't have a list to take them off. We get their number from a phone book. We are a small company so we don't have a list on a computer or anything our surveys and such are pencil paper.. lol old school.. I'm thinking it's different for people who sell things. If someone say's no thank you I'm not interested I NEVER ask them why. At my company we say ok thank you have a good night. I'm not sure the differences between sales and surveys. But either way I'm sure we are annoying as hell :)

Actually Windy, it is called the National Do Not Call Registry. ALL companies who make unsolicited phone calls are required to buy this list which costs about 500.00 dollars every 6 months. The only exception is Not For Profit/Non profit organizations If you call someone who is on the DNC list, the company can be fined up to 4,000 dollars. Each State has a Regulatory commission that companies are required to register with before making one phone call. I used to own a Marketing company and was almost fined 8,000 dollars because I wasnt registered with the Tn. Regulatory Commission. I ended up closing my business when the National Registry came along. I couldnt afford to make a bad call. Just because your company is only taking surveys doesnt mean they are not required to be on the list. You are still calling people who have not contacted you and asked you to reply by phone to them. It's called an unsolicited phone call. In answer to your OP <s> because of my past experience being a "Telemarketer" I am kind to them. They are only doing their jobs. I say no thank you, but in a firm voice. Most of the time that is enough. I am pretty intimidating over the phone <wg>

I'll talk to Red Cross and the Salvation Army, that's all. My mane is the overseas call centers. However, rather than being rude to them initially, as soon as I find they are doing surveys or trying to market something, I inform them that I've registered with a Federal Organisation similar to the NDNCR and if they call again their call will cost the client/parent company thousands of dollars in fines per phone call... Funny, most of the calls have stopped now.

An unsoliceted call is an unsoliceted call, wether it is sales or survey it is still just as unwelcome. Treating them with utter contempt for wasting my time in such a manner might not be nice..... but then I never claimed to BE nice! No slight on you Windy, it only applies to those who ring ME and waste MY time..... them wasting other folks time doesn't bother me in the slightest, it ain't MY problem[:D]

Taking numbers from a phone book is not an accepted research methodology. That is the sort of thing telephone sales people do, but people doing research are held to a higher standard because their results are supposed to reflect an external universe from which names have been selected in a random (I won't go into details here but suffice it to say the procedure is strict and complex) manner. Many companies try to claim that they are not included in the "Solicitation" category because they are not trying to sell something. However, they are still soliciting information. In My experience, the "Do Not Call" registry is not very effective. All of My numbers are listed as "Do Not Call", and I am even getting calls on My cell phones now. Caller ID is a big help. because if I don't recognize a number, I will often will just not answer. I especially love it when the same number pops up on the caller ID and they are calling My fax line. I always hope it is a live operator, since they are going to getting My fax tone in their ear. (Yes,sometimes I can be a bitch!) And the computer dialers with the recordings really get My goat. I have had to listen to many long, recorded messages, before I can delete them. In answer to your questions, though, I feel like MofGA. If I am in a bad mood, and the sales person is more agressive and less polite, they will get a bit more flack, but I usually ask how much they are paying Me to take their survey. Most of the time this question quickly ends the call. And right now I will be receiving $125 in Costco gift cards because I did take a moment, make an appointment, and spend 2 hours, on Monday, attending a time share presentation. I thought that was a fair wage for a reasonably short drive, free bagels, muffins and coffee, and an entertaining exchange! And I am always open to a focus group that is going to pay Me for a couple of hours and My opinions. So here is My number...Smile

I don't care for telemarketers, researchers or whatever they call themselves these days either but I won't waste energy yelling and swearing at them either. I've found that having an unlisted phone number means we almost never get such calls (maybe 3 or 4 times a year at most). When they do call you can tell right away because they never pronounce our last name properly. I cut them off and say "Thanks but we're not interested" and I hand up the phone even if they keep talking. I don't feel the need to be rude (people are just trying to earn a living after all) but I don't feel that I'm obligated to waste my time listening to their schpiel either.

I agree with that.. I can if I need to, reroute the call through a security number and have some security types give them the third degree on the phone too.. I do that with any harrassing calls and once they find that the call is being recorded and traced they usually get off the phone proto..

My dad keeps being harrased by City bank, and SBC yahoo internet and phone. we keep telling those companies notinterested don't calll her any more, and low and behold at least once a month one of them calls lol. Now when ever I or mom answer the phone and their like yes may I speak to mr "g Moss" I say who is calling and they say city bank....... and I'm like sorry we've told you before we're not interested. One guy calling " on behalf" of agmc morgage insisted to know dads social security number, Dad was going to agree to check out a policy amc was preported to have and dad says if you really arew with amc morgage you'll have my Ss and all that on file and the guy continued to pussy foot about while demanding the info and dad says put me on your no call list good by edited to add And did you know most callers are reluctant to identify themself to someone other than who they called for? Most people in general have poor phone skills I've had poeple CALL ME yes call me and demand who's this. * me answers* hello? Them answers, WHO'S THIS! I answer well you called me who are YOU. I asked what time May I ask who's calling and I had to ask 4 times to get proper identification. They're all like oh this is mark, and I'm like mark who, and their like from city bank, and I was like what do you want, and he's like to speak to mr moss, and I am about like what, and he says banking info and i finally ferrirted out who it was what he wanted. But he should of identified himself pronto

I've done this type of interview before, and been paid for it. It's been a while since I had a telephone or in-home interview, but I was recently paid $25 for about 10 minutes answering questions online, and I've had products shipped to my home to use and then respond to a survey about my experience with the product about a week later. So far, I've received hair products, cereal, and 20 lb of dog food - absolutely free.

The "bragging rights" come with it.
