Top 10 Reasons an Open Border Candidate Won the Election

10) 50 years of Lucy reruns with a Cuban as the straight man, has convinced people that Americans really are the buffoons.

9) After 9/11, cellphones were modified to selectively destroy American brain cells, while leaving intact all foreign memories.

8) The inventor of microwave ovens soon realized that it could be used to melt spines as well as chocolate, allowing Hershey to charge more while reducing the size, and moving factories to Mexico without anyone complaining.

7) Mexican food has reanimated latent DNA in brain cells from the cradle of civilization that Europeans had repressed as racists. (aka chicano pride)

6) Rumors circulating that media companies plan on increasing cable rates every 6 months, if they aren't allowed to pick our candidates for us. Wait, they already do that now.

5) Rumors circulating that Mexican flags cost half as much as American flags.

4) Too difficult to remember Pledge of Allegiance in English, easier to fake the words in Spanish.

3) A white Santa Claus implies expensive gifts for kids, George Lopez as Santa Claus implies pet rocks.

2) Business owners enjoy the free custom paint jobs on the side of their buildings.

1) Turns out Mayan sacrifices really do work!

But the more important reason--every country throughout history that has closed its borders has suffered for it economically.

Any decent sized business has a quarter to a third of their markets overseas. Hell, even as a free lancer, I had clients in Canada and Japan. Close off huge chunks of your customers, and you aren't going to create jobs, you aren't going to save jobs, you aren't going to lower prices, you aren't going to stimulate business growth--you're going to kill the economy.

Even more so today. It's a global marketplace. That horse is far, far down the road. Learning to deal with it will prove are more productive than either lamenting it or trying to turn back the clock.

Knitting? With those long sharp pointy things? Yea know coloring can be relaxing too, and no one has ever poked out an eye with a crayon. Well not that I know of anyway.

Thats odd, when I read "open borders" or "closing borders" I always think of immigration, not trade.

Music, do you remember Clinton telling us that if we passed "NAFTA" that it would create "millions of high-paying manufacturing jobs and help stem illegal immigration?"
Almost immediately we started hemmoraging high-paying manufacturing jobs and there are more illegal aliens in this country than ever.
And, for the life of me I can't remember the American People demonstrating in the streets with signs saying; "We Demand Free Trade."
Can you?
And what about the cheaper prices we were promised, you know, "the consumer" and all that?
Ford, GM and Chrysler all have plants in Mexico and their prices on their vehicles have gone UP every year!
In the mid nineties you could buy a new Ford pick-up for $25k, now they go for $40k! That's not going "down" in price is it?
A few years ago Bush passed "CAFTA" and Haines underware promptly closed their plant here in S.C. laying off 900 people and moved it to Honduras!
And guess what happened to their prices?
I don't buy their products anymore and I tell other people not to as well.
So just WHO is all this "free trade" good for anyway?

Well, it gives you something to whine about. Approximately 10 times per hour.

Hmmmmmmmmm... no. The OP needs to get into getting spanked. It's the only way to calm him down.

Let me see if I have this staight.....OP puts together a blatently xenophobic inspired thread.....and for his efforts he gets rewarded with a spanking.Wheres the justice in that.

kittinSol -> RE: Top 10 Reasons an Open Border Candidate Won the Election (12/9/2009 2:04:58 PM)

The reward is that you suffer from the injustice of it all [:)] . *Joke* : I add this for those ever judicial eyes.

The problem is, I think, that Free Trade isn't free. The only way you can compete with a country where labor costs $10/month is to become one yourself. The objective of tariffs is FAIR trade.
