Perhaps you misunderstood, the thread asked speciffically for non-fiction books.

First of all, that's really uncalled for. It's baiting and not the point of this thread. Secondly, I don't think the OP is really into the thread anyway, to be honest. I listed nearly 25 kick-ass books and he failed to comment on one of them. Sorry I wasted my time.........luci

I thought the response was quite funny; obviously, Bible guy was looking to start something. Half of the reason I frequent this board is for the laughs.

Sorry I didn't respond to your post, but there's a few posts I haven't really responded to, not because they weren't interesting suggestions, but because just saying "interesting" isn't an interesting response. I was thinking of picking up the Eggers book, for one.

Terry Paupp's EXIT FROM EMPIRE.

From the Amazon description, seems to make some conclusions along the lines of Giovanni Arrighi's book "Adam Smith in Beijing", though the reasoning might be different.

Bullshit!

It was completely called for.

I even typed the same comment before I saw Mike had already posted it.

If someone wants to parade their beliefs before me in a thread that has nothing to do with religion then they better be prepared to hear those who disagree.

She said it was her favorite book this year. She didn't parade any beliefs around you.

Kinda reminds me of the guy who thinks two men holding hands in public is shoving homosexuality down his throat.

Sounds about right to me as well, to be honest.

am i Bible guy? (well girl LOL)

i was the title of the thread and thought names of books non-fiction books we collarme posters liked this year.... If i posted something the OP wasn't asking for it was an honest mistake...i truly thought i was just contributing to the list of books enjoyed this year.[sm=dunno.gif]

Folks,it was just me looking for a laugh....if breatheasone enjoyed her Bible...and feels it fits the category....no skin off my nose. And no Rule,I didn't feel as if religion was being shoved down my throat,
For my own purposes any book describing parting of the seas...and living in a whale is going in the fiction category...but thats me!
Breatheasone feels different...hell,let me make a confession(pun intended) there are times I envy that sense of belief...it doesn't work for me...but perhaps, just perhaps I'm worse off for that!

LaTigresse -> RE: Best Non-fiction Books You Read This Year? (12/11/2009 11:22:26 AM)

I've read mostly non fiction for several years now. I've become totally fascinated with Mary Magdalene and have read a fair bit about her.

Two unrelated books that I can remember the names of that I enjoyed are The Four Agreements and Mencius.

Yeah right-on Mike, its cool my friend.... i have to tell you something, not because i want to shove or flaunt anything,  just that i have this.... "peace that passes all understanding." (Philippians 4:7)

Mike you are a real joy to talk to!

No Sir, you didn't. It was only meant to be a friendly affirmation, i didn't mean to imply you asked for, or wanted it. i just felt like giving it.

BOUNTYHUNTER -> RE: Best Non-fiction Books You Read This Year? (12/11/2009 12:12:35 PM)

My check book, it all started out with great promise and was tending to be a great story but with a lousy ending smile..B

I seem to be doing a shitty job of making myself understood....that wasn't meant as a snap at you....more as a snap at those that don't think I'm so funny.....hell the people who think I'm funny can be counted on one hand....no sense me ticking them off....lol
and please don't call me sir.....my fathers been dead for years.  :)
