ORIGINAL: Brain I’m not satisfied with this compromise. For me this means people like Blanche Lincoln (Arkansas), Mary Landrieu (Louisiana), Ben Nelson (Nebraska), Joe Lieberman (Connecticut), and others in the House, I can’t think of any more names right now; for me this means people like this need to be purged from the Democratic Party. I hope they’re looking over their shoulders getting ready to be trounced in the next election. They are Dinos, Democrats in name only. Its official: Democrats drop public option Democratic senators say they have a tentative deal to drop a government-run insurance option from health care legislation. No further details were immediately available. But liberals and moderates have been discussing an alternative, including a private insurance arrangement to be supervised by the federal agency that oversees the system through which lawmakers purchase coverage. Additionally, talks centered on opening up Medicare to uninsured Americans beginning at age 55, a significant expansion of the large government health care program that currently serves the over-65 population. http://rawstory.com/2009/12/official-democrats-drop-public-option-2/ I long ago pretty much gave up on this bill. If there had been any sense in the Democratic party, they would have given the republicans a well deserved "fuck you card" and gone for single payer, like the rest of the civilized world. Now my only hope is that this will establish a base. Once passed, at least health care reform will be a fact. Then, maybe, just maybe, we can get to work fixing it. No matter what passes the senate and becomes law, it's not going to be a solution. It's going to be a step.
