The religion thing wasn't working for them (merc didn't get the memo). Everyone else realized troll wasn't working either.

Just doesn't get that this isn't a schoolyard at recess.

luckydawg -> RE: Q5: If you had to choose ... (12/11/2009 2:45:19 PM)

Mnot so your answer is basically 'No, I can't actually defend what SOT said, but I want to attack and insult you '.

Troll is as troll does....

mnottertail -> RE: Q5: If you had to choose ... (12/11/2009 2:46:49 PM)

education.
condoms. (whoops, not under rightietighties)
investigating the localized origins and transmission routes, and dealing with them.
for starters............

Hey, how about you quit sockpuppeting and lying and pretending and making arrogant and unjustified pronouncements and do your own fucking homework.

Ron

luckydawg -> RE: Q5: If you had to choose ... (12/11/2009 2:50:00 PM)

Wierdly enough Mnot, none of those things have controlled the epidemic.

And according to 'and the Band Played on", the gay community fought them every step of the way. Millions were being made off of the Bathhouses and Gay tourism in San francisco, and people were arrested for hanging warning flyers and passing out condoms there.

The Gay communtiy still hasn't quit barebacking.

But that is all Reagans fault...right....sure...

MasterJimUK -> RE: Q5: If you had to choose ... (12/11/2009 2:52:54 PM)

One poll that may have been taken by people with their own agenda.
Not sure its worth commenting on.

Bush was unpopular.
Obama was very popular but his honeymoon period with the public is starting to falter.
What more is there to say?

Its likely by the next election 'brand Obama' will be dented. Same as anyone else thats served a full term.
It will be a lot easier to attack him, but the scare tactics won't work so well because he has been in power a full term and not done all these crazy things the right claim he wants to do.
A lot will rest on what kind of alternative the Republicans can offer.

"claim he wants to do"??? You do understand that the agenda of the Dem controlled Congress is ultimately set by the President? There is no need to "claim", he is trying to do them. If they dont get done it will only be the diligence of the GOP and more conservative Dems that stop them.

mnottertail -> RE: Q5: If you had to choose ... (12/11/2009 3:14:46 PM)

Uck

what has controlled the epidemic then?

and you take a made for tv movie as reality?

On April 2, 1987, Reagan said: "How that information is used must be up to schools and parents, not government. But let's be honest with ourselves, AIDS information can not be what some call 'value neutral.' After all, when it comes to preventing AIDS, don't medicine and morality teach the same lessons."

FY 1989 show that Reagan proposed at least $2.79 billion for AIDS research, education, and treatment.......

little and late, I am not saying that he ignored aids completely, it just wasn't high on the radar.

“You're president of the United States," Nancy Reagan, reminded Ronald Reagan as he sat up in bed in 1983. She begged him to do something about the growing scourge of AIDS. "If you don't talk about it, nobody will talk about it. Nobody will do anything, and all these people — these children, these young boys — they're all going to die. And the blame will be on our heads, Ronnie."

President Reagan quietly kept reading through his half glasses. He seemed very cozy, clad in his bathrobe, beneath his blankets.

"Ronnie, say something," Nancy pleaded. The president coolly maintained his silence. He never even looked at his beloved First Lady.

That's how Showtime Sunday night depicted a scene from the White House residence in The Reagans, the controversial TV movie about the conservative chief executive and his devoted wife. Reagan's alleged homophobia and indifference to AIDS patients are among the reasons Reaganites attacked the program, leading CBS to cancel its broadcast premiere and shift it instead to Showtime, the network's sister pay-cable channel.

The original script was far worse.

"Those who live in sin will die in sin," says President Reagan, as portrayed by actor James Brolin. Teleplaywright Elizabeth Egloff eventually admitted she had no evidence on which to base this scandalous comment. "We know he ducked the issue over and over again," she told the New York Times in self-defense.

Is any of this fair? thats a made for tv movie too!!!! I buy yours, you buy mine?

Free-marketeers may argue that the federal government should have left AIDS research and care to the private sector. Whether or not one embraces that perspective, no one justifiably can regard Reagan's requested and actual AIDS spending as a gleefully applied death sentence for AIDS sufferers.

From his state of the union:
We will continue, as a high priority, the fight against Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS). An unprecedented research effort is underway to deal with this major epidemic public health threat. The number of AIDS cases is expected to increase. While there are hopes for drugs and vaccines against AIDS, none is immediately at hand. Consequently, efforts should focus on prevention, to inform and to lower risks of further transmission of the AIDS virus. To this end, I am asking the Surgeon General to prepare a report to the American people on AIDS.

So, he like Sarah Palin, was big on abstinence, and people got pregnant under her roof and on her watch, and people died under his roof and on his watch.

so, 2.9 bill, you want to look up what he spent on all his little wars including Iran/Iraq, Nicaragua, and so on yourself?

There is no contradiction. I was responding to a post about OBAMAs agenda. That some Dems may oppose that agenda doesnt make it not his agenda.

Lucylastic -> RE: Q5: If you had to choose ... (12/11/2009 3:35:37 PM)

A significant source of Reagan's support came from the newly identified religious right and the Moral Majority, a political-action group founded by the Rev. Jerry Falwell. AIDS became the tool, and gay men the target, for the politics of fear, hate and discrimination. Falwell said "AIDS is the wrath of God upon homosexuals." Reagan's communications director Pat Buchanan argued that AIDS is "nature's revenge on gay men." With each passing month, death and suffering increased at a frightening rate. Scientists, researchers and health care professionals at every level expressed the need for funding. The response of the Reagan administration was indifference.

ok troll, Then his blaming of Reagan for "the policy of the time" is rather ridiculous.

It is cute the way you try to help him out when he lies.....

Why don't you tell me how it could have been controlled....I would really like to hear an explanation of that.

But I suppose I will just get insults and made up words with no meaning.

Dr. C. Everett Koop, Reagan's surgeon general, has said that because of "intradepartmental politics" he was cut out of all AIDS discussions for the first five years of the Reagan administration. The reason, he explained, was "because transmission of AIDS was understood to be primarily in the homosexual population and in those who abused intravenous drugs." The president's advisers, Koop said, "took the stand, 'They are only getting what they justly deserve.' "

In my experience trolls have bigger post counts . One line snarks are much less time consuming than actually saying something.

I just want to point out that this would qualify as a one line snark...the period notwithstanding.[:)]

That's just not a fair question, Firm.  I'd have to say Obama, only because SOMETHING would have broken loose from the Bush II administration by now, and with everything else happening right now, the time just isn't right for an impeachment and trial in the Senate.
