Brain -> Green Revolution - Ideology Holding America Back (12/10/2009 5:18:39 PM)

I have to agree with this viewpoint and it’s supported by many flag-waving Americans on these threads paranoid the United States will be ‘ taken over’ by some foreign conspiracy or entity or foreign nation or nations, who knows what; I certainly don’t understand it but I think it’s ridiculous and it is holding America back.

World government takeover? Oh please!

Green Revolution - Ideology Holding America Back

American competitiveness is severely hobbled by our "free market" and anti-government attitudes. One way our competitors hold us back is by encouraging this outdated ideology. Result: other countries have national economic/industrial strategies and we don't. So we lose.

Remember how "chips" was a major driver of the economy in the 80s and 90s? Then the Internet drove the economy late 90's and early 2000s? The world understands that "green energy" is the next big industry that will drive the world economy. Actually, the rest of the world has understood this for some time and has been investing and inventing and innovating and building. Meanwhile over here America's big oil and coal companies bought themselves a Presidency and an anti-government ideology and a climate-change-denial industry that has cost us 8 years and counting.

Green has some value- but it can never replace nuclear.

When I see a space ship powered by solar - maybe then it would work.

I do think things should get more efficient.  But I don't think it should be mandated by a centralized power.

When I was at Lowes looking at ceiling fans-  it was a mystery as to which one was more energy efficient.

Never say never. There may be better technology someday, but it is by far the best alternative now. Too bad the "rules of engagement" hinder nuclear development here when its being embraced virtually everywhere else, further eroding our competitiveness.

Would you hazard a guess as to which country in the world produces the most electricity with nuclear power?

Yea, we don't want the US to be a leader in any 'furrin' commie plot like clean green energy... Why the money we make there would be socialist and all...

All of our space satellites are solar powered right now and if we ever do become space travellers to other planets in this solar system likely the slow large transports will use solar wind and direct solar power. So you'll see em.

One of the main reasons we need to get off carbon fuels is the polluting by-products.... Nuclear plants create more and harder to deal with polluting by products, out of the frying pan into the fire... better to use safer and lower pollution heat sources like the sun and/or the interior of the earth..

Solar wind???? Solar wind would move a ship in one direction only, straight away from the sun...

US is in deep crisis. It has spread almost into every aspect of life. What competitiveness are we talking about? How to make manic depressive behave rationally. There is no easy way.

I'm pretty sure it was the one that wrote the story  in the OP's link, which your busy schedule apparently didn't allow you to read, but somehow allowed you time to comment on.

Ah yes, another well thought out intelligent answer.

Why do you even bother to post if you won't explain your views?

luckydawg -> RE: Green Revolution - Ideology Holding America Back (12/11/2009 12:15:46 AM)
