Another random thought: not only is submission consistent with being a strong person and being a strong person makes one a better submissive, but it is also true that the equation of submission with being a weak wimp is a major cultural factor keeping both men and women from finding the deeper satisfaction that can come from a sound D/s relationship.

excellent point. it always disturbs this slave to see folks labeled as "doormats" or thought of to be weak of mind or integrity or spirit or intestinal fortitude for pursuing a submissive path. while some seem to think there is a cultural or societal bias to wards the woman being the submissive part of the relationship, in some areas it is actually the opposite. of late, women are portrayed in the media of vanilla society as being aggressive, assertive and dominant in their interactions with their male counterparts to their relationships..."Desperate Housewives"?

Yes and no.  Yes they are being portrayed as more aggressive and dominant- but also completely inept.  They are aggressive and dominant out of necessity, not out of simple state of being.  Someone like Buffy (the vampire slayer), the ultimate "looks like a blonde little princess but will kick your ass and take names" was the mistress of her domain in the cemetary- but absolutely unable to maintain any sort of actual relationship.

There are indeed some good examples of strong aggressive women in relationships who DO handle their relationships well out there in pop-culture, but more often I see women who take control because their men are shown as either too lazy or stupid to do so- not because it's just how they happily interact.  I think both sides of that coin do a disservice (though may create some hi-larious antics for tv watching).

God, isn't that the truth.  Two shows come to mind right off the bat:  "Everybody Loves Raymond" and "King of Queens."  The women had to take control of the relationship, the house, and everything because of the ineptitude of their husbands.  And both women were quite frustrated at doing so.  Hollywood does a great job of making the average husband appear lost, stupid, and a puppy to their wives.  This concept got old for me fast.

(sorry, still can't get quotes to work unless i quote the entire post now).

But the wife in Everybody Loves Raymond is perky and cute.  I wouldn't mind running her household.

(The actress's name is Patricia Heaton, I think.  She's a Republican.)

(Yes to both. And don't let the perkiness fool you - she has a great plastic surgeon...heh)

Does your Dom/me, Master/Mistress or Owner inspire and encourage your inner strength?

When i was His, He always inspired me, always encouraged me, and sometimes even discouraged me if He felt i was making a mistake.... He helped me to find the strength many times and i even sometimes helped Him to find it.
