Status: offline 		Sarah Palin is raising money for hospitals in Canada that perform abortions because she's getting paid $200,000 to speak in Hamilton Ontario Canada. The hospital is part of Canada's health care system and performs abortions.

"This is quite the coup," Macaluso said last night. "She's one of the hottest speakers on the Speakers Bureau. The demand is huge."

What do you want to bet... after this thread goes on for twenty pages of Palin bashing madness one of the bashers will accuse me on another thread of being obsessed with Nanci Pelosi after I comment on the House raising the debt ceiling by almost another two trillion dollars.

Juravinski Cancer Centre is as its name says a Cancer care center, offering paliative and new cybernetic surgery options as well as chemo, radiation etc
and St. Peter's Hospital is a home for the elderly.
I do not believe that she would talk at or on behalf on an abortion service no doubt how much money she had thrown at her.
I dislike her intensely but I do not doubt her anti abortion stance

And if she raised money for a hospital that happens to do abortions amongst other good things, is that a no no? I think the prominence that abortions and especially abortion funding have in political discourse/legislation drafting is way out of proportion to its actual impact on society.

Status: offline 		Not for me Wilbur, I just dont see her doing it..I dont see the point in making someone out to be greedy and two faced when its obvious to  anyone that she would not do something like that because of her earlier stances and obviously strong beliefs against abortion.
Apart from the fact that she has a strong belief that I dont hold, she has no chance of changing things here.
If it brings money into the hospital, well thats their perogative.
I am all for womens rights over their bodies and always have been and forever will.
Abortion is no where near the issue here as it is in the US, thank goodness.
I dont like her and never will but it doesnt mean I have to agree with someone lying about her to score points

Brain, as far as Palin, i dont like the woman. But i have to agree with Lucy. I dont see her going against her own morals in this fashion. Too much political risk for her to even consider it.

Status: offline 		I think it's entirely possible she will cancel but I hope she doesn't because that hospital probably needs the money for cancer. I think you're right, if it becomes an abortion issue she will not want to be seen as a hypocrite. Once they get the money who knows what they're going to do with it. Most of it will probably go to cancer but maybe you could argue they would have more money for abortions. I think they're going to have money to do abortions no matter what, whether she speaks or not.

And you have no clue how much I contribute to charity. Note that I said there are "probably some years". All that takes is one high year of contributions vs a particular year of yours. (And before those barbs are tried, the main charity I contribute to wasnt even tax deductible in my highest years of contributions).
