In the casual banter forum you can expect more sarcasm, teasing and button pushing. But for most of our fellow kinksters, this is the only way to seek understanding and support for something they feel they need in their lives. As fellow members of an alternative lifestyle, empathy for their needs and not their kinks is an important thing to develope. Otherwise, community activism is hypocritical. If we want the vanilla world to accept us, we should start by accepting our fellow kinksters.

I am very opening minded and I have grown over the years more but I have been attacked myself. Being on the net is too easy to hide behind an icon or a made up name in order to attack others for their beliefs and viewpoints. I do feel there is a time you need to stand and defend self for your ideas but there are too many of those who like to force their ideas on some one else. I also think we do not show respect to each other either as a Dominate or sub/slave. We are in these groups so we can learn and grow from each other ideas also in hopes to find our true Dom/Domme or sub/slave. I have learn allot but this got me to venture out into the real world and seek out those who are true to the lifestyle. We need stop treating the internet at the real world or the lifestyle. The real world lifestyle are munches, play parties, sloshes, and event. We need to realize there are real people behind icons and screen names. Remember we need to treat each the way we would like to be treated ourselves.

Whilst the pain of the loss is still something which I feel every moment of every day, it is a small comfort to know that I am not alone in feeling the way I do about the reasons why I spoke up. I think open minded is a generally relative term. What is openminded to one person isnt really openminded to others. What is acceptable to one person may not be acceptable to another. In my mind as long as it doesnt hurt me or those I care about then go ahead its your kink revel in it.

I even believe the troll i blew off this morning will eventually find a sub who falls in love with Him for God only knows what reasons but His and her lives not mine!! There really isn't much in the lifestyle that i can say I will NEVER do, there is several i do not want to do now but as i grow more in the lifestyle i can see me wanting and craving more - needing to go further ... Guess i am open minded but with issues - was that an option?

I just assume I have issues. Some folks claim I'm the most open-minded person they know. Others call me an arrogant SOB. I consider both claims to be truth, inasmuch as both claims are essentially subjective. I try to mitigate my attitude by owning up to it as nothing more than my opinion. That's managed to keep me out of a lot of flame wars over the years. I have a lot more attitude where occultism and philosophy are concerned than I do as a practicing perv. I have a ton of attitude as a gamer, but that's just par for the course. Every hard-core gamer has issues, but the three primary communities are so insular that most folks take their cliquish bigotry as "self evident fact" and never actually come fact to face with their issues. Some of my issues: I never trust someone, especially a sub, who insists on referring to themselves in the third person. I consider it disingenuous and indicitive that they do not respect me enough to tell me their honest opinion. I have learned to fear and loathe "jock" types. Tall, blonde, popular, involved in sports, and usually swarming in packs. Nasty mean aggressive brutish small-minded louts who drink too much and are way too fond of inflicting pain and misery on any outsiders they meet. I profile these people the way some folks profile blacks or latinos. I have never been traumatised by a person with dark skin. I have been traumatised by way too many "beautiful people". I refuse to dignify a person who plays video games with the title "gamer". I refuse to call any of these games "role playing games". I can never figure out where the actual role playing is. I consider the enochian magic practiced by the OTO and their relatives to be essentially flawed. I have been known to get into a lot of verbal fights over this subject. I have similar issues about wicca, especially gardnerian wicca. I consider it to be a fine and workable system of occult philosophy, but I inevitably come across someone who insists that it represents an ancient and unbroken mystical tradition stretching back to the dawn of time. Invariably I wind up getting pissy, and frequently get booted from the discussion group. Open minded? Me? On further reflection, hell no. I'm still one of the most open minded people I know. What's the old aphorism? The first key to wisdom is knowing how much you have left to learn?

I don't consider myself open minded, as i am very conscious of my own limitations.... I have very strong opinions, some of them irrationally stubborn, though i do always strive to make sure i am informed on multiple and varied perspectives. For example, it may be very nice that people are finding inspiration and consolation from very far removed interpretations of certain texts and traditions from Our Common Cultural Heritage. I am genuinely glad that things very near and dear to me appeal to a broader audience, in so many sifferent ways. But on a personal level, i just can't stand "new age" orientalism. <shudder>

But i sincerely believe that one has to absolutely have a sense of humor in order to get along with people -- especially here. IMO, too many take themselves much too seriously. Maybe they're all recovering from hangovers, i donno. Say the wrong word and they're all over you like a cheap suit. Life is too short for that nonsense. i hear more and more complaints from both men and women who have had bad experiences from contacts, both here and in other places, so they tend to take it out on those who they barely know. i have tried to be as polite as i can, and i don't tend to judge people on the basis of one or two posts, because you cannot possibly get to know someone -- anyone -- from a series of verbal rants. People, all people, save those psychopaths who will never integrate successfully into society, are pretty good when you manage to engage them in a conversation when they are in a good mood. Otherwise, look out!

Open Minded? Wow ... thats a throw it out there question. If someone is happy, relieved, fulfilled and satisfied... but its something that isnt in my limits & will not affect me or anyone else that doesnt wish to be involved - Then I would say, let them get on with it, but I dont have to do it. If someone is happy, relieved, fulfilled and satisfied at someone elses expense in a non-consensual manner, then thats something I have to think deeply about and respond to accordingly. What people do to themselves or allow to be done to them is there own business. What people do to others without permission, to another, is irresponsible. (IMO)

I am pretty much right there with NoCal. One of the things that attracted me to this lifestyle is the attitude of acceptance. However, there are things I just won't do. Breath Play/Asphyxia... not going to happen with me. Too Scary. I guess I'd have to say as long as people aren't trying to force their likes/dislikes on me, I'm ok with them having their own fun.

I'm with jenn on this one. I am pretty open-minded with a twist. I have a couple stubborn ideals but I try not to push them on others. To each his own. Sometimes I will ask questions, however, because I am still learning all the aspects of this lifestyle. It's an ongoing process. If someone brings an issue up, I always try to see all sides of it before I comment. Sometimes I disagree, but I never get testy about it. ann PS: I am curious about what happened to your friend, snowleopard, if it is not too painful to tell us.
