Winners names are announced. However, a Trust can claim a winning just as well as an individual. Its the trust's name that is announced.

$77 million you say? Reading that on the electronic scroller about the Quik-e-Mart checkout would get me to buy a dollar's worth of dreams. To the damn "bad investment" tightasses on the subject, I say, "Duh! It's from the entertainment budget, stupid!

While I have long been of the opinon that the lottery is a tax on stupidity I can't say I really have anything aganst the person who spends a buck or two on the weekly numbers. Not a whole lot is being lost and I suppose there is a thrill of "maybe, just maybe," when you check the numbers.

The people I find truly pathetic are the people who play the instant lottery cards. They'll spend a hundred bucks, scratch of the cards right there at the counter (oblivious to the miffed looks they're getting from the line behind them) and then will be so thrilled that they won five bucks. [&:]

These people need to be neutered for the good of society.

Edited to add: and, of course, the five bucks they won is immediately used to buy another instant lotto card which wins nothing. [8|]

I wouldn't do anything. I take the money others dump on lottery tickets each week and invest it.

What I WILL do is retire quite comfortably, no wondering involved.

1.) invest wisely
2.) buy house
3.) Stop depending on the government to fund my schooling
4.) shoot anyone attempting to borrow money from me

First I would call the accountant. Then I would let my daughter buy a cow horse. And I would get her a better car. And I'd tell my son that he could have his choice of paintball guns if his midterm/final grades are above a 90.

I'd get The Man a new car also. And I'd get all the small things that are wrong on mine fixed. And I'd get it detailed.

I'm guessing 30some mil isn't enough to resurrect Freddy Mercury, is it?  Damn... didn't think so.

I'll kick in 500 bucks if you think it will help.

Well....for real? How much?

Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy?

You know, when I think of the years I wasted back in the 70s not liking Queen because it wasn't cool to like them (they weren't hard enough, and besides... they dressed funny), I could tear my hair out. I didn't really "get it" until the mid to late 70s, and discovering a band when it's already at its zenith just isn't as much fun as finding them early on and  then following their rise to the top. I feel like I missed out on a lot of years of enjoying them.

I won a holiday drawing at my hair stylist's shop yesterday. Feeling lucky, last night I took my break and walked through freezing rain to buy a lottery ticket, (you never know!).  I sprained my ankle.

Aside from the last sentence, the story is true.

It'd be nice to buy Amstrad and then fire Alan Sugar, in a meanspirited sort of way.

Arpig -> RE: I WON THE LOTTERY!!!! (12/24/2009 12:44:01 PM)

If I won 38 million.....I would establish a 5-million trustfund for each of my 3 kids, and give my ex a 5-million lump sum as well. My parents and my 3 siblings would each get 2-million, leaving me 10 million to live on. 1 million of that I would spend on a house and a car & furnishing it, paying off old debts, etc. and the rest I would invest in a very safe vehicle and live off the interest...9 million at even a modest rate of return (say 1.5%) is still over 100 grand a year...plenty to live on, about $2000/week. Over time I would dip into the 9-million (college for the kids, a car for them when they get their licenses, replacement cars for me and so on, but I figure I could live really comfortably on the interest and there would be a tidy sum left over for my kids when I kick off. This basic plan works no matter what the amount...each portion just gets bigger or smaller depending on what the weekly jackpot is. As you can see I have it all figured out
