$77 million you say? Reading that on the electronic scroller about the Quik-e-Mart checkout would get me to buy a dollar's worth of dreams. To the damn "bad investment" tightasses on the subject, I say, "Duh! It's from the entertainment budget, stupid! While I have long been of the opinon that the lottery is a tax on stupidity I can't say I really have anything aganst the person who spends a buck or two on the weekly numbers. Not a whole lot is being lost and I suppose there is a thrill of "maybe, just maybe," when you check the numbers. The people I find truly pathetic are the people who play the instant lottery cards. They'll spend a hundred bucks, scratch of the cards right there at the counter (oblivious to the miffed looks they're getting from the line behind them) and then will be so thrilled that they won five bucks. [&:] These people need to be neutered for the good of society. Edited to add: and, of course, the five bucks they won is immediately used to buy another instant lotto card which wins nothing. [8|]
