They've been concerned about this since at least 2007, along with the insurance industry, which is going to face big payouts because of our refusal to act on this for the ten years or so that there's been scientific agreement. http://www.time.com/time/specials/2007/article/0,28804,1730759_1731383_1731632,00.html I love hearing from our kooky right wing how global warming is just a big hoax and efforts to face climate change are a big conspiracy by other countries to "take your money" and (I guess) force us to drink French wine. Little details like the Pentagon being in on the plot to create a "socialist world government" don't seem to deter the flat earthers one bit.

But, yet, they're not planning for a space-alien invasion? I mean, if they're planning for kooky, improbable events like 'global climate change', just in case, then they should plan for, say, Godzilla (or similar) rampaging around Manhattan or DC or whatever . . . . . I also haven't seen any plans to battle an all-consuming 'blob like' critter . . . . . Nor do they seem to be making contingency plans to fight super-powered humans (a Watchmen type scenario, or something along that line) . . . . [/ironic tone]

Boy, talk about mission creep, this is mission gallop. The minister of India is particularly paranoid about all those refugees from Bangmydish. See, that's the problem. Climate change has become a hot topic among many military planners since this paper started making the rounds in 2003. The wars of the future may be more about securing access to fresh water or fertile topsoil than fighting over abstractions and principle. It'll only become more obvious as unlucky populations succumb to the inevitable Malthusian catastrophe that arises when too many people outpace their resources, an effect that we see regularly in Africa, where humanitarian aid allows populations to grow far beyond their internal agricultural output... resulting in widespread famine when that aid is interrupted. I am not at all surprised that the Pentagon recognizes the implications of even the slightest chance that weather patterns could go haywire. Its counterparts in Europe and Russia have shown signs of similar thought. There are even rumors that China is on board, possibly accounting for its presence at Copenhagen, showing activity and making concessions that would have been unthinkable just a couple of years ago.

A well reasoned and informative piece, Chris. The Malthusian implications lie quite close to the surface. Time to read again the extremely prescient 1997 book by Robert D Kaplan The Coming Anarchy, apocalyptic for the loss of Power of the ruling nations over the burgeoning populations of Asia and Africa. Also time to revisit Thomas Malthus here for anyone who is interested. Vincent

Oh please. The Pentagon isn't worried at all. Everyone knows the DOD has that big weather control installation on the north slope of Alaska that they've been using to experiment with large magnetic fields changing the weather patterns in the northern hemisphere. That's what created El Niño, right? And now they've got all those weather control satellites they're scattering around the globe. Soon they'll be able to change the weather patterns everywhere on the planet. Concern for 'global warming' is just a cover for all the money, research and time. Come on... See ... I can play, too!

I, on the other hand, am pretty much bored to tears by those who can't wrap their puny minds around the fact that the climate on this planet changes constantly, and have instead bought into the "anthropogenic" BULLSHIT embraced by facistic totalitarians who have made global warming their talking point, and the greedy whores who want make billions off the scam. Glad to know the Pentagon is prepping for what happens naturally on our planet.
