It will be interesting to see what they find, that is if they plan on looking for anything. If it were up to me, I would appoint a special prosecutor like Patrick Fitzgerald to investigate everything.

Yeah, let's wait until we hear what the AP has to say.

I agree with this.  The comments at the end of the article indicate that the website is not mainstream.

Well, here is the AP's story on the subject anyway.  Nothing gets released until 2014 at the earliest.

edited because the AP has updated the story since I read it this afternoon.

Seems reasonable Rich, some lapsed time is necessary ,otherwise none of this stuff can be looked at through the prism of historical perspective.

Care to lay any bets on what percentage of those emails were just funny forwards?

Doesn't mean they won't be illuminating.Imagine the interest there might be in just what Cheney would send to Bush to get a chuckle......perhaps the plans for hijinx on an upcoming hunting trip [:D]

Filling in The blanks on the Bush administration.

According to Jonathan Turley, constitutional law professor, this was a target rich environment for scandals and investigations. Congress and the courts can get these e-mails, they do not have to wait until 2014.

2014 is for historians but at the very least if no one is prosecuted we are going to find out what is in these e-mails and what really happened because before they told us they were lost and we couldn't find out anything.

In Britain they' re talking about prosecuting Tony Blair.

Tony Blair Iraq War WMD Admission Sparks Outrage, Calls For War Crimes Prosecution

Former Prime Minister Tony Blair's recent admission that he would have invaded Iraq even if he knew from the start that it did not have weapons of mass destruction has sparked public outrage and calls for his prosecution for war crimes in the ongoing war inquiry, the AFP reported.

Historical perspective? 2014 is only six years after W's term ended.

6 years, while not 50 is still some distance from events timewise. And as I said allows some perspective to be gained.

Millions of Bush administration e-mails recovered - CNN.com

The e-mail controversy dates back to the Bush administration's 2006 firing of the top federal prosecutors in nine cities. After congressional committees demanded the administration produce documents related to the firings, the White House said millions of e-mails might have been lost from its servers. Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington and the National Security Archive sued over the issue in 2007, arguing the Bush administration violated federal laws that require presidential records to be preserved.

Also requested were several days surrounding the announcement that a criminal investigation was under way into the disclosure of then-CIA agent Valerie Plame Wilson's identity. That investigation led to the conviction of White House aide I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby on charges of perjury, obstruction of justice and lying to federal agents investigating the leak.

Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington represented Wilson and her husband, former U.S. Ambassador Joseph Wilson, in a lawsuit over her exposure, which they argued was in retaliation for his accusation that the Bush administration over-hyped the intelligence used to justify the invasion of Iraq.

A federal judge dismissed the case on procedural grounds in 2007, but Sloan said the missing e-mails raise the "strong possibility" that special prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald never received all the documents he requested during the leak investigation.

They all were probably of absolutely no significance.

Just casual banter between colleagues.

Nothing of any concern.

Those climategate e-mails on the other hand............................

Not at all, RML.  Not that I said anything of the sort anyway, but then I've grown accustomed to you just making stuff up in my posts so you'll have something to reply to.

White House emails are a pretty new thing.  I seem to recall that President Obama had to fight a bit with the security people to make sure he had it.  Did Bush II use it at all?  I would completely expect to find all sorts of interesting tidbits in that mountain of information from his administration, though.  Can you imagine what we would have from the Nixon administration?  Or the candid, mean politician, LBJ?

People tend to be pretty casual in email a lot of the time.  Be careful what you wish for.

If the Nixon administration had access to the internet, "Deep Throat" would have referred to something else entirely....
Not that a U.S. President would ever watch porn. It's not like they're real people or anything. [;)]

True, people seem to be a lot freer with information in written format. It'll be interesting to see what's discovered.

Tiger Woods sure learned that lesson the hard way....
