I do agree that any Christian who wants to make the holiday about Jesus ,should drop ALL the pagan trappings, the trees, the meals, all gifts, the holly,and Santa. Difficult to know if you are tongue in cheek or serious. Not that I wish to steer this thread into a debate of Socialism v Capitalism.

FR after reading

If you believe, this is an idea who's time has come, if you do not believe it's even better. Or would you rather celebrate a non-fatal black Friday ? It has gotten ridiculous.

In the end you bought a bunch of cheap chinese plastic toys for the youngins' and they would rather play with the box. Later it's cellphones, blueberries and who got the most gigs this year. And you think people would grow up, but they don't. People buy you shit like drapes and other decor items for your house that you think look like shit, $150 lighters while someone else gets them a smoking cessation kit, and there is always that fruitcake......

Then at dinner, people who strive to take off a measely ten pounds a month for health reasons, possibly grave health reasons are either forced to watch, recuse themselves or have willpower which they may or may not have at the time. Then after that, you get sick of turkey sandwiches, turkey soup, turkey fricasse, turkey melt, turkey paprikash and turkey stronganoff to the point where they can't even think of selling turkeys for the rest of the year. This causes fluctuations in the market that allow the vulturism of speculation to survive and thrive, the very enemy of humanity. (no offense, they really don't know it, or didn't)

And then there are enough spuds and stuffing usually thrown out it raises the price of wheat and potatoes. Which is actually OK because after so many rounds of leftovers, you don't want it anyway. (or it turned green in the fridge)

Then the toys all break by March and time comes to pay off the bill. Where is that damn tax refund ?

But the fruicake lives on. In that there is wisdom to be obtained. If the mold is smart enough to leave it alone, ?????????

So there's the totally non-secular version of it.
