LadyEllen -> Rage Against The Machine (and commercialised music) (12/16/2009 3:05:30 PM)

The news tonight reported a movement underway to prevent another Christmas No.1 for yet another X Factor style over produced, commercial pop tune.

The movement apparently is calling for all those who like their music as art rather than as "and the bland played on" commercial crap that usually constitutes the top ten and produces the number 1, to download "In The Name Of" by Rage Against The Machine - downloads count towards the retail sales that determine the number 1 position.

Its an excellent choice for this rebellion and if it comes off will be excellent for me too, since its one of those songs I can play that sounds really complicated but isnt and the only problem in me impressing everyone thereby is that most people have never heard of it.

Never. I can't stand Rage's whiny nature. I like my music like I like my movies and games -- as distractions from the world, not constant complaining about said world.

Huge Rage fan here, but I don't care to see them with the #1 song on Christmas, certainly not an old tune, just out of spite.

Rage has some shallow messages, and some deeper ones. They have always stated that they would be a group that has a political agenda. It was a disagreement between the band, about the artistic and political accomplishments and goals, that led to ethir break up.

The message from much of their music is applicable today, 10 to 15 years later, and it is a good example of how dissention and disagreement keeps things going.

I am a fan of their music, relate to som of their causes, but I do not agree with how they feel we should get there.

The people always get what the deserve, if they are willing to accept less than they expect.
