Just another sign that the insurance companies are going to screw over the people of this country every chance they get.  If it was not for the Government stepping in with laws to protect us, even more would be losing their insurance.

I find it odd that this was in the news today, I mean Blue Cross/ Blue Shield has spent more money fighting against any reform than any other insurance company and today even more proof that they do not want to insure people who are not profitable (the sick)

So don't get sick,

Don't worry, the government run insurance 'public option' will put Blue Cross/Blue Shield out of business.

Yeah, every company in America should intentionally be unprofitable.

[sm=banghead.gif]

The sad things are

1) that you dont realize how stupid your statement is
2) there will be many who agree that "insurance" companies should be required to cover those known to be unprofitable

No, the sad thing Willbeur is that you, and many like you, put profits ahead of humanity.

Do you realize how many agencies and workers the fed has?

It floors me that they want to invent a consumer agency- HELLO?

When the government is asked to solve a problem- it will never EVER be solved.  Why?  Because we then monetize it.   Once the funding starts- it is nearly impossible to stop it.

We have ample government- I do not understand why they dont get rid of laws.

PA, it's hard to take you seriously when you reduce an issue to "I do not understand why they dont get rid of laws."

I mean to delete outdated, un-needed laws.

Most insurance companies started off as non profit and changed when they realized how much money they could make, BCBS is a great example of that, they are now the ones donating the most money to kill this bill

How about a true free market then for insurance companies, instead of the BS we have now.  They are the only industry in this country who are exempt from anti trust laws.  WHY????  you would think that the GOP would feel this is against the free market.  They can price fix, agree on what to cover and not to cover, who to cover and who not to cover.   Or perhaps allow the government to negotiate prescription prices, that would be better Free market then what the GOP but in place,

No, this is all about money and how to get as much as they can anyway they can out of the American people, DAM everybody who is poor, middle class or is sick.  Insurance companies need to be able to pay their CEO's 700 million for less than 5 years work

Actually, we are getting very close to a tipping point IMO.

As you state, being profitable is one of the major reasons for a company to exist.  But it's not the ONLY reason.  It also exists to provide a good/service to customers, and employment to its employees.

Lately, those last two are being overlooked.  We are seeing companies employing US citizens less, and using devices like extra fees to screw their customers.  The banks and car companies are proving that if you whine enough, the government will bail you out.  So who needs customers to be profitable?

Gonna be one helluva populist movement coming shortly.

The thing about banging your head here, wilbur, is you have precisely explained why helthcare is a government function, but your brain is too swelled and bruised to see anything cogently.

Take a little lie down, quit banging.

Actually ball teams don't do anti trust- and lately some banks.

If we were going to truly open up the field- we would let foreigners compete.   They might even do a better job.

A good point. They're certainly competing with the rest of the workforce very successfully, after all.

No, the sd thing is that you, and many like you, dont understand that the profit motive has resulted in most of human progress since the discovery of fire. And most anything that didnt result from the profit motive was an accident.

Because there are other laws that restrict their ability to compete. You cant have it both ways.

Disagree. The reason a company provides a good/service to its customers is to make a profit, and it needs employees to provide those goods and services. And before someone carts out "non-profit" corporations, all that means is that they spend their net earnings..in salaries, bonuses, perks etc. The laws on unreasonable compensation are nowhere near enough to destroy their profit motive.

Brain -> RE: Insurance won't come between you and your DR, cuase they will drop you (12/18/2009 5:40:22 AM)

Those despicable bastards that run these companies that do things like this need to be charged with murder for all the people they killed.

The discoverers of fire? Really? You should continue this argument to its natural conclusion, that amoeba are really little capitalists, swimming in a sort of primordial oozy job market. That's what the social Darwinists were thinking; of course, they, too were wrong, nor did they really understand evolution, which, by the way, is not essentially competitive as some would claim.

Given that the profit motive as motive for human action is a relatively new infliction (~19th century), and even now far, far from universal, your statement is veritably false.

The best example, of course, is Einstein. Yeah, I hear he was doing it for the chicks.

Well Willbeur, that's where we have a fundamental disconnect.

You believe that life is based on "what is best for me" and should be lived purely for self-benefit.

And while we all share that to a certain extent you are on the extreme edge of those beliefs, which I find many conservatives to be, and which is why I have such a problem with the conservative movement.
