I have 2 good rules, not for here, for the internet in general.
First, When I join a new forum, I try to read a significant amount of the forum before I post the first time. If I run across a good thread, I mark it, open another window, and pruposely read a dozen or so random threads before going back and posting to the one I liked.
And, secondly, I try to acheive 100 posts before I start a thread.

These give me a chance to get to know the culutre of that particular board, and sometimes even get to know a few people, before I risk putting my foot in my mouth.

I often suggest people borrow theese. many wise people do seem to think it's a good idea. the ones who really need it, however, never seem to agree with the idea.

I agree that it is a little sad, just as sad as submissive people deliberately ommitting to capitalise the "I" (as in: "i am not worthy"), and also as sad as those that insist on double slashing everything ("W/we are ubersuperduper BDSM paratroopers"), but hey! If it rocks their boat, it's no skin off my teeth.

and some of us dont capitolize many words because our pinky finger and ring finger on the right hand are permanently numb, so we arent sure which keys we hit.  type, backspace, type, backspace.

true story, but entirely tongue-in-cheek at the same time.

I don't use a lowercase I to signify myself. I was never asked to by my Master so I see no reason to alter the way I type to make myself seem submissive on the internet. I do capitalize He when referring to my Master on the board because I think it shows that the He I am speaking of is someone I am in a power exchange relationship with. My Master did ask me to address him as Master (capital M) in response to certain texts or emails. For example: if He asks me a question via text he expects to see "Yes my Master" in response, not "yep" or "ok." The thing is, he also capitalizes Slave when he addresses me. I think its because he wants me to think of it as my name. Eh..whatever works for each individual. I don't think its "sad." I try to judge what I read on its content not on which letters are capitalized.

I realize that the whole "i" vs. "I" or "me" vs. "Me" thing is very important to debate. It must be since it comes up so often. Capitalization, slashy speak (that one really does get me and IS a hard limit), talking in the third person, what is a "true" slave, blah blah blah. Are these really the things that keep people up at night?

LadyPact, you have in at least 99.9% of your posts that I have read, said something meaningful, helpful, and insightful (when not joking with others of course), regardless of which freaking size "m" you have decided to use. While it still isn't for me, because of you I have a much greater understanding of poly households.

Mercnbeth, doesn't seem to matter what the hell you guys write or how you write it, I'm always anxious to read your thoughts on the various subjects here.

Same thing with those of you sharing a screen name and using different colors for each person. It's helpful to know who the hell is saying what!

So really, do we need to have another 20 pages of which is the "right" way of doing it?

Let's make it real simple. Use english as best as you can (and if english isn't your first language, mention it, so we can understand why it might be a little hard to read), don't post in difficult to read colors or sizes, and don't type in all caps (THAT is like yelling and hurts my head). Other than that, use whatever freaking case of the letters, whatever freaking color you want. Maybe we should put this in the TOS somewhere......"stop complaining about stupid shit"

Indeed. I don't think anyone who has read this forum for more than a day can argue against those two points.

I noticed that so many dommes (and much less if any dom) capitalizes the pronouns that refer to her like this: "Yesterday, I took My car to go to My house and play with My Dildo" (dildo with capital because it was big lol)

I am the only who finds this hilarious? I mean come on!

it reminds me the youngsters who write in "teh internetz l1k3 dizz" to be "cool" lol! ok your "coolness" derives from your BDSM status, why need being ridiculous?

maybe to increase their "domness" and how supreme they are, they should write in bigger font? like I play with My dildo?? lol

anyways, this is sick, really, it reminds the repetitive actions psycho's do, as if they need to remind their status to themselves, so that they won't forget it, lol

and oh they must have so much free time to capitalize every letter of the pronouns? wonder? I get bored even thinking of it

*giggles*

Bashing other peoples' kink is against the forum rules.
From the sticky thread at the top of this forum:
"Keep the discussions civil and mature, and do not insult the kinks, preferences, lifestyles, etc. of others."

Your attempt to insult certain members of this forum regarding their preferred way of expressing themselves comes across as childish, and reads like the new kid in school trying to be "cool" by making nasty remarks and *giggling* at a classmate's choice of wardrobe. Too bad that some of your intended "targets" are highly respected here and have a long history that includes informative and experienced posts, meeting other members in real, and helping in private nearly any time they are asked.

That said, I noticed the way you tried to make this about female dominants in particular. Hate to burst your bubble, but many male doms also use this convention- sometimes on the board, and sometimes in private communications with their sub or slave. Its not really uncommon, although the reasons for it would likely escape you at this juncture.

To sum up, you have just shown your Strawberry Shortcakes to everyone reading this thread. Nice work.

Its a shame people can't address rudeness without being ridiculed for it...a real shame. i didn't see anyone taking the "kink" too seriously.  i saw people explain that they capitalize for self-expression, how is that taking the preference "Kink" "too seriously"? i saw people reacting to the OPs rudeness.

I rest my case - earnestness is all very well, don't get me wrong. But when people get their knickers in a twist because their kink is 'disrepected' or 'made fun of' online, it makes me want to laugh. You're missing that it's precisely because people have such high consideration for their own preferences that they can be mocked so easily.

A little bit of self-deprecation goes a long way, I promise.

Edited for syntax error.

Hmmm, perhaps you intentionally ignored my post? People were reacting to the OPs rudeness, and the fact that the OP is a VERY CLEAR violation of the Guideline for this forum. If you want to make it about people being upset because a "kink" or preference was mocked, thats your right, but you would be wrong.

If you believe the fora guidelines have been violated by the barbarian that started this thread, I advise you to contact the administrator and to express your concern to them.

Unlike you, I've read the thread, on the other hand, and I've seen people get offended by something which, frankly, should leave self-confident people laughing and not giving a damn.

I disapprove of slashy speak on the boards because I find it difficult to read, and because I know that anyone (like MoGa) who uses a voice program to read the boards to her will find the thread incomprehensible as a result. I also disapprove of forcing your protocols on others who have not agreed to follow them. Sort of like the new guy who has referred to all females, sub and domme alike, as "little ones". You don't do this to people you aren't in a relationship with.

With that said, the rudeness expressed by the op far outweighs any rudeness someone else who does use slashy speak could be considered as expressing. Deliberate rudeness is much worse than thoughtlessness.

Voice programs will read Y/you as "upper case y, slash, lowercase you" which is difficult to follow. I find it rude to do this if you know that someone with impaired vision will have to deal with this. If you didn't know it, you do now.

Doing it in private conversation with your own dominant or submissive is something else, of course, and presumably no one would do this to someone with vision difficulties who they claimed to care about.

is a post created solely to insult another's preferences acceptable here now?

if so, then here goes:

hello

I noticed that so many switches, subs and dommes (and much less if any dom) start threads to insult another's preferences like capitalizing or not capitalizing the pronouns that refer to them, like this: "Yesterday, I took My car to go to My house and play with My Dildo" (dildo with capital because it was big lol)

I am the only who finds this offensive and against the alleged TOS? I mean come on!

it reminds me the youngsters who write in "teh internetz l1k3 dizz" to be "cool" lol! ok your "coolness" derives from insulting other's preferences or their BDSM status, why need being ridiculous?
maybe to increase their "coolness" and how supreme they are, they belittle others who prefer to write differently than they do? like I play with My dildo?? lol

anyways, this is sick, really, it reminds the repetitive actions psycho's do, as if they need to remind their superiority to themselves, so that they won't forget it, lol

and oh they must have so much free time to post about other's "psycho" use of spelling & grammar? wonder? I get bored even thinking of it

*giggles*

So... I was gonna say something... but damn... go girl go!

(BTW, OP, I'm not a fan of the practice but that's because I feel it's refering to themselves as one refers to a deity, which they aren't. I definately wouldn't go as far as insulting anyone though. I think it's silly but... meh. To each their own. I'm plenty silly.)

Eh.... as I said, for me the real problem is that it's "Godspeak" and only G-d gets that in our world - me and Val's I mean. So to see mortals doing it just strikes me as silly. But, like I said, I'm plenty silly. I have a tattoo of a comic book character after all!

i personally think that Dommes who use CAPITAL LETTERS ARE VERY VERY ANNOYING i mean what on earth is possessing Her but then i am annoyed by the opposite sex anyway what is new but for me what right does She have to CAPITALISE Her name, i think She is on a Power Trip, why do so many Dommes do this is it the new definition of being Female and Superior. Women are Superior to men
