ShaharThorne -> The so called Medicare and Medicaid, differences (12/18/2009 5:56:01 AM)

I am on Medicare now due to my bipolar.  My family is saying "Finally" so we are happy that it covers mental health issues.

But there is a problem...Medicare does not cover dental issues.  I did not know I have a gum disease that cause my infamous dragon breath.  I knew I have cavities, but did not know as to what extent.  Medicaid does cover dental issues, especially if you are a parent of a child (especially if you're pregant).

Does the so-called new health plan covered dental issues because some gum diseases can affect you health-wise?

I just want opinions, no bashing, no mauling of me.  I just want to know if it is a valid point for discussion.

The original bill, yes. God only knows what distorted form the politicians are trying to push onto us in hopes of saving votes. [8|]

Weird, isn't it? Like dental problems aren't a medical issue.

You'd think dental  issues were as lightweight as psychological ones [8D] (no, I didn't miss your original post rofl).

Since you were on medicaid before, and qualified for medicare because of a diagnosed illness, seems you'd still be medically needy.  Try this link... http://www.hrtw.org/healthcare/dual.html

And good luck!!  :)

Thanks...I have turned in my application for help on the part B.  Perhaps if I urge the dentist to have my teeth surgically removed (I did not pay attention to my teeth because of a perverted dentist when I was vanilla), then Medicare will cover the cost since it has to be perform in a hospital.

Shoot, just remove all of my teeth and put me in dentures. Mom had to do that when she was 25.  I can imagine the BJs I can do then...LOL!

medicaid varies from state to state.

PA medicaid has some dental- and the thing is no dentist will accept the low pay- nor must they.

Find a dental school - as the need patients.

Which raises the issue of the clinic model for the "uninsured", by far the best solution to that problem, though not without its own difficulties to implement.

...Drs have stopped participating in medicare by not accepting new patients.

(.Drs have stopped participating in medicare by not accepting new patients. )

And many many doctors will be retiring rather than be part of the "reform":

They can afford to retire before the rest of us? How can this be?[:D]

Individual threats don’t add up to much in the face of the overall size of the system. The system is bigger than the individuals thus some will quit but then people quit jobs all the time and others take their place. Those that take their place will know nothing of how it was before them only how it is now, so will have nothing for comparison to complain about.

People that fear change for these reasons don’t realise that eventually people forget change.

I don't have a stake in this but find it amusing when people make dire predictions of a bill so complicated who knows what implications it has. This is why it has been watered down to the level it has because people fear the unknown. Anyone that says they know exactly how any proposed law change is going to affect people in the future with 100% certainty I'd be highly sceptical of.

On the whole don’t care.

I am afraid it is not that simple.

many DRs in Chicago simply do not accept medicaid.  The pay outs wont even cover the liability insurance.

Same for medicare, and it will get far worse with $500 billion in cuts in reimbursements used to "balance the bill" . Seniors will be facing the same kind of unconscionable delays in treatment that Canada suffers from. Grayson ranted that the GOP plan was "Die quickly". This plan is "Die slowly and painfully".

People also forget the Medicare has a monthly premium, as well as copays and such.   At one time the monthly was $50, but today I think it is around $120.    I feel sorry for young DRs.  How will they ever repay their schooling?

ShaharThorne -> RE: The so called Medicare and Medicaid, differences (12/20/2009 3:17:41 AM)

PA, on the dental school, I cannot go due to transportation issues (no license, living in a rural area) and with having gum disease, the disease had to be treated first before any extractions could be performed.  You need to look at the factors pertaining to the individual, not the general public.  I am seeing the dentist who accepts Medicaid for a 2yo from Marion county yet he practices in Camp county (I live in Titus myself).  The dentists in Titus wanted me to go to a surgeon to extract the tooth when it can be done in one stop (he wanted to do a root canal when I knew the cavity was too far gone).

So I have to use my monthly SSI for dental work unless the state is willing to accept taking care of my part A and part B.  If those two are taken care of, I can have my dentist put me in the hospital and remove the unsightly teeth.

Also, I have to play for my part D, which covers my drugs.  I have several pills I have to taken on a daily basis, one of which is a tier 2.  I am also suppose to get Boniva as well, but one pill is worth over $100 and is a tier 3 which means that my part D will not cover it.  I will get samples from my doctor instead.

So see, it is not all cut and dry on Medicaid and Medicare.  There are many issues at stake here and unless Congress wants to henpeck the bill to death, there will not be a secured health plan.

pahunkboy -> RE: The so called Medicare and Medicaid, differences (12/20/2009 12:45:16 PM)

PA has like 1 dentist who takes medicaid.   He is in Harrisburg.  It is not a good state of affairs.   Ones best bet for rural is to pick out a dentist who does not have a fancy office- if they have old furniture and heat with kerosene even better.  Many dentists are highly priced- there to sell you bridges and crowns...  everyone.   Count yourself lucky as most on medicaid can not use the dentists... as there is none- in PA and most states.
