A travel-disrupting snowstorm has begun over western North Carolina and will soon envelope much of Virginia. The storm is destined to become a blizzard by late Saturday, while hammering part of the mid-Atlantic with perhaps a foot of snow, strong winds and coastal flooding.

A powerful nor'easter will dump heavy snow on the mid-Atlantic region late Friday night and Saturday. The heaviest snow will shift into New York City and southern New England Saturday night. Long Island could really get clobbered by this thing, with over a foot of snow possible by Sunday.

A Southern storm is heading northward into colder air and will transition into a paralyzing snowstorm for some people and a raging blizzard for others in the mid-Atlantic and southern New England.

This will be a paralyzing "Super Saturday" snowstorm for millions of people.

Massive travel problems are anticipated. Motorists could become stranded on roads. People should be prepared for long stays at airports.

Hurricane-force gusts are likely from the Virginia Capes to the southern Delmarva. From the northern Delmarva to Cape Cod, 60-mph gusts are expected.

Location Current Conditions Palos Verdes Estates, CA
Sunshine to start, then a few afternoon clouds. High 74F. Winds light and variable.
Friday: Partly Cloudy 73° / 51°
Saturday: Partly Cloudy 75° / 52°
Sunday: Partly Cloudy 72° / 52°

No - this isn't about global warming.

Just the posting of a sadist who sees an opportunity to be sadistic!

Have a GREAT weekend! We're planning a BBQ and heating up the pool to about 90° and the hot tub to 102°!

But don't worry about the carbon footprint; I'm following Al Gore's example and buying carbon offsets.

Yes, i just talked to my husband and he is getting some stuff at the store on the way home from work. That way we won't have to worry about having to go out over the weekend. It looks like its going to be a fun weekend!

Edited to Add: *Norfolk/Virginia Beach area of VA here*

Ah, that explains why we have the SE part of the state getting spanked a bit.  Normally we have a west-to-east thing going on.

Travel asked not to- by mid state.  4-8 coming.  I suspect we will get 3 in the valley here.

This type of storms very uncomfy.

In a way tho it should be no big deal.

We have snow coming tonight and for the remainder of the weekend.  I love living where we have 4 seasons and changes in the weather.  I love wearing sweatshirts and sweaters.

What happens to the sadist when he finds out his torture was for naught? I love the snow! And right now with a cast on my leg, it guarantees the teenager won't be able to go wandering about so he will have to take care of me instead. So snow is a GOOD thing!

Temperature here is up over 20 degrees fahrenheit, and while we have about a half a foot of snow on the ground, the paths are mostly clear. So I'm on my way out the door for a 15 mile bike ride right now. I'm loving it!

There's no reason why you can't have a BBQ and hot tub party during winter - you just have to be one tough son of a bitch!

Let me make sure I'm understanding....naked, in the sun, swimming, listening to music, BBQ; versus being bundled up, cold, wet, having the prospect of looking at ice and dirty piles of snow until April. See that! No matter how kinky you think you are - someone always says something to go over the 'squik factor' line! "Snow is a GOOD thing!"? YUCK! beth may not have 'limits' but I sure do!

Being an honorable sadist, although I don't subscribe to safe words illustrated in this case as, "snow is a GOOD thing!" I will not impose my sadism in any non-consensual circumstance.

Take care of your leg and make sure that teenager uses his/her pent up energy to help you stay off of it! Get well!

I have been to California. I would rather drive through a blizzard on my roads, than rush hour traffic on a 74 degree sunny/smoggy day in LA.

It's 32 degrees here right now and I got to go for a nice walk during lunch and don't have any snow or ice to deal with on my drive home. 50 miles, 40 minutes max. Peace and quiet on my little hilltop. It's all good.

hi LaT,

one of the groovy things about The Great State of California, contrary to common misperception, is it isn't paved with clogged freeways.  one doesn't necessarily encounter them, with any more frequency than your blizzards.  Master doesn't use them for His 7 mile commute, 15 minutes max each day, due to residential area driving.

it was actually 80 on our little hilltop today...and since the Santa Ana's have been kicking, it's a clear view all the way to the San Bernadino's and Santa Monica Mountain Ranges from the coast.

Beth that sounds lovely. I was definitely not in the best parts of your part of the state, that is for sure.

I have about had it with the cold and snow. Here in Salt Lake we get inversions, the smog is so thick I can't see the mountains 5 miles away. Can't wait to get out of Zion, to a warmer climate. Az?

Im dreaming of a White Christmas
Just like the ones I used to know
Where the trees start to glisten
And children listen
To hear sleigh bells in the SNOW SNOW SNOW
im dreaming of a White Christmas
With every Christmas Card i write
May your days be merry and bright
And may all your Christmases be WHITE
White Christmas? i ll think have to keep dreaming. we have had a little snow but not much and its been mixed with sleet and rain the usual irish mix. The temperature now is -4 (25f) but it is white with frost not snow. As usual too the Irish bookmakers are giving us ridiculously short odds. 7/4 does not even cut it in a temperate climate like ours it should be more like 20/1 even allowing for the little snow we had. But then bookies are never seen on bicycles , more like mercs and volkswagens.  Even the annual irish custom to bet on the White Christmas wont sink them if it is by chance successful on the 25th. By the way Happy Christmas everybody and Happy shopping
Kevin

Merc you are an evil sadistic man heheheh. One of the reasons I love living here in canada is the amount of snow we get. But somehow this year it is missing us here in toronto. We had a couple of inches that almost disappeared a day later, and enough to just dust the ground. Twenty miles away they had a couple of feet, but nothing for us. Toronto had no snow in November at all, and that broke a 162 year record.
Right now, its dull and about 28f...no snow till wednesday
How can I do my snow angels and midnight jammy run without snow!!!!
Everybody keep safe and warm and enjoy  yourselves..
