Hang on a second here... the internet and blogs don't discover news, they are opinions. None of today's bloggers have investigative reporters actually finding out new things to inform the public, they get their 'news' from newspapers and /or self serving 'leaks' just like everyone else. Not mentioning anywhere i could see in this thread the corporatization of media and consolidation of media seems to me to be missing the whole issue. There used to be a journalism professor in California who published a ten most under reported stories of the year every year... I looked for something current from him and couldn't find it so maybe he has stopped, but from the late 70's on through at least into the 90's the consolidation of media was on the list EVERY YEAR... When America's news sources are owned by the big businesses that are controlling the government there is no 'freedom of the press' All of today's media play lip service to anti big business stories. what a shock!! I truly agree that an informed public is critical to the survival of the US, but honestly I don't see how that is going to happen now. You are not going to see individual newspapers or TV stations taking an editorial stand on issues , hell, you can't find an independent and individual newspaper or TV station of consequence. They are part of chains that are owned by bigger corporations who have no desire to have conflicting reports or editorials out there going against their interests.
