And these people wonder why we call them dangerously insane. This is a huge part of the reason I'll never - ever - vote for a republican candidate again as long as I live, at any level of government. Republicans are the ones who let these barking mad, frothmouthed lunatics into the building.

quote:

Father, we want to represent you in the way that we should. And so Lord, I ask for forgiveness for that and our own country. I first thank you for the leaders that you have given to us, Father. Godly men and women. Godly men and women who called out to you and who tried so hard to be followers of your will. But Lord, we know that we have failed. That we haven't done as we should.

And so that's why now Lord, we ask for your forgiveness and we repent and we turn from that. And we say, 'Oh Lord, we deserve your wrath, but would you yet give our nation mercy?' We ask for your mercy. We cry out to you, oh God.

Yeah this is much better:

"The government gives them the drugs, builds bigger prisons, passes a three-strike law and then wants us to sing 'God Bless America.' No, no, no, God damn America, that's in the Bible for killing innocent people"God damn America for treating our citizens as less than human. God damn America for as long as she acts like she is God and she is supreme."

Except, as usual, you are missing the point.

Jeremiah Wright is a private citizen, Michele Bachmann is a member of Congress.

I almost didn't recognise this gathering without the white hoods, as they say.

As for ascending her unholy mound: count me in.

I'm a bit perplexed as to how this relates to healthcare, being as I am an outsider?

Panda,

For a while, I worked part time as a church musician (kept my atheism to myself, was happy to promote the more positive communal efforts of the faithful...I was also well paid). Among the things I definitely don't miss is the passive aggressive prayers.

I tell ya, some of these people are damn lucky there's no God. They'd be in serious shit.

Jeremiah Wright is Barack Obama's spiritual advisor of over twenty years. According to CNN,

quote:

Wright, who performed Obama's marriage and baptized both of his children, appears unremorseful about the fiery sermons that made their way on to YouTube and led to his ouster from an advisory committee the Obama campaign.

But Wright, long critical of the establishment Obama must embrace in his Oval Office bid, knew it was coming. He predicted as much in a New York Times interview more than a year ago.

"If Barack gets past the primary, he might have to publicly distance himself from me," Wright told the newspaper with a shrug in April 2007. "I said it to Barack personally, and he said, 'Yeah, that might have to happen.' "

Sanity,

Was the point of this that you have definitive proof that Michele Bachmann is Jeremiah Wrights love slave? Cuz if not, I really don't see the conspiracy.

Maybe I'm just obtuse and someone will explain this to me. I watched the clip. I read the quote. Personally I lean far closer to heathen than I do to any sort of religious person. Having said all that I don't see anything objectionable about the clip. It's a group of people in a prayer meeting. Is this another one of those tired "separation or church and state" threads?

The point of my post is, who the hell is Michelle Brakeman. I've never heard of her.

Individual members of Congress are almost inconsequential.

Bachmann is from Minnesota, as Franken is, as Jesse Ventura is. Inconsequential, perhaps, these nobodies in congress........... but then what is everyone on about this healthcare and deficit and war and clean air and water and other tawdry inconsequential shit for?

You bic?

I'm sorry, guys; I was browsing so many videos, I didn't notice that this segment didn't have the context. This was part of an approximately hour long revival meeting in which senators and members of the house of representatives prayed to god to defeat the health care bill.

Edited to add: Here's a link to the full video, if you can stomach it -

So when it passes, will they take it as God's will that it passed?

Let me guess...

That these clowns use religion as theater disgusts me. Not new, I know, but still sleazy as it comes.

Lucylastic -> RE: God, Smite This Health Care Bill! (12/19/2009 8:27:28 AM)

Nah they will put around a story that Obama is a witchdoctor who spoke into the ear of satan to get th bill passed

Sanity -> RE: God, Smite This Health Care Bill! (12/19/2009 8:31:38 AM)

So is it your claim that religious beliefs of individual members of Congress are of more consequence to this nation than the religious beliefs of its Commander-In-Chief?

Because Obama's religion is way out there. (If someone attends Wright's sermons for two decades, its a pretty safe assumption that those sermons fit his religion).
