EARLY ONE MORNING
Early one morning when the sun
stained the walls pale red,
she woke her man and this is what she said:
"When I am gone, gone and buried,
when I'm cold and dead
who will take my place here in our narrow bed?
Will it be my own sister
'cause she looks like me?
Will it be my sister or
will you let her be?
Will you treat my own sister
better than you treated me,
tell me will you really love her
more than you loved me?"
Early one morning when the sun
stained the walls pale red,
he took her hands in his and then he said:
"When your gone, gone and buried,
when your cold and dead
I'll be alone here in our narrow bed.
Yes you've a pretty sister,
pretty as can be.
A lovely girl your sister
and willing to please.
But I'll not touch your sister
as pretty as she be
I'll not touch your sister for
she's as nothing next to thee
Early one morning when the sun
stained the walls pale red
he got to his knees and this is what he said:
"When I am gone, gone and buried,
when I'm cold and dead
who will take my place here in our narrow bed?
Will it be my own brother
is that who it'll be?
will it be my brother or
will you let him be?
will you go to my brother
because he's richer than me?
will you tell him you love him or
will you be true to me?"
Early one morning when the sun
stained the walls pale red
she turned away and this is what she said
"When your gone, gone and buried,
when your cold and dead
I'll go to your brother and warm his bed.
I will go to your brother
for the children must be fed.
I will go to your brother
and I will warm his bed.
I will go to your brother
though I'd rather be dead.
I will go to your brother
and keep you in my head."
