So, while visiting my folks in Somewheresvilletownburgton, Kitten and I were killing some time in a book store and I came across my new jury-rigger's bible - a book called Make It Last!, by the editors of Yankee magazine. While it doesn't have anything in there for pervertibles, it's got all sorts of great information for preserving, maintaining, and recycling all sorts of household stuff - like a recipe for drain-cleaner using vinegar. Could just be my handyman tendencies, but I eat stuff like that up.

Use it up, wear it out, make it do or do without is the phrase that inspired the title. Old Yankee saying.

About the vinegar in drains, only works when they're just a little sluggish. Beyond that, you need a snake.

Snake, OK that one requires a coat hanger. The duct tape is for other repairs.

As long as we're on the subject, I've found that a plunger and a little elbow grease works middling-to-fair for a clogged drain, if it's a tough clog that the professional drain stuff doesn't want to take out. Going to try the baking-soda-and-vinegar method mentioned in the book, since our drain's starting to slow a little bit.

Hmm... wonder if I've still got my old trumpet-cleaner. Flexy length of twisted metal, like a spring, with basically a wire brush on both ends. Don't know how well it would work on clogs, but... oh, no, damn. Got rid of that trumpet years upon years ago. Bah.
