Hi All, Christmas weekend is usually a concept of movie marathon around my place -- so what is everyone renting these days?

So far i've got

The new Harry Potter
Julie and Julia
My sister's keeper
I am thinking about Angels and Demons but not sure yet

We aren't much for horror types.

Thanks, angel

"Inglorious Basterds" and "The Hangover" both came out last Tuesday. Though very different flicks, they're both really good. I don't usually go for comedies because they are never all that funny to me. Something about "The Hangover" just hit my funny bone, though. I was laughing and laughing. I definitely recommend it if you're in the mood for a few chuckles

As far as a "holiday" flick, "Four Christmases" wasn't nearly as funny as I'd hoped. It had a few moments that were clever or chuckle-worthy, but overall not as good as I'd expected. "Perfect Getaway" is due out soon and "District 9." I look forward to both of these................luci

We loved the Disney movie 'UP'. Great story and well done visually.

Didn't like 'Inglourious Bastards' on a number of levels. Angels & Demons was okay - but very slow in the middle.

I can't wait to see District Nine . Shame I didn't go to the cinema to see it, and that I have a riquiqui teevee, but hey. It's better than nuffink.

I do the whole "Christmas Story" marathon....

I did go see Avatar this weekend. Good effects, but pretty predictable plot, one dimensional characters. Worth seeing on big screen for the effects though.

I'm the opposite of you angel. I love horror movies. I'll also do a mini "Saw" marathon sometime over the holiday week. Even if they aren't your thing, have you ever seen Seven? Great thriller, not really horror, movie.

My Sister's Keeper was soooooooooooooooooooo incredibly sad!!!  Have Kleenex handy!!

Angels & Demons was hokey in parts (I saw too many blunders) but entertaining enough.

Everyone should see Life of Brian LOL.  Loved that.

Recommended Movies if you haven't seen them already:
Grand Torino
Crash
Things We Lost in the Fire is one of my favorites but pretty heavy
The Bucket List
Shawshank Redemption is something I can (and do) see over & over again
Slumdog Millionare
Taking of Pelam 1,2,3

Wow, you're the first person I've heard say they didn't like it. Most people who wouldn't generally like that sort of thing just didn't see it. Tarantino fans stood in line. What about it didn't you like? Are you just generally not a Tarantino fan? Just curious..........luci

No - I think the fact I loved Tarantino's other stuff so much my expectations were too high! I've looked forward to everything hes put out since Reservoir Dogs. I could watch Pulp Fiction every night and the Kill Bill's are always entertaining - can't wait for the 3rd installment I understand he's writing now.

I think I didn't like the disconnect from history in this one. Not that Tarantino is big on reality in any of his stuff or even time continuity, but I couldn't disconnect myself from the reality of history to like the story. There were also too many good characters to fit the story. I wanted more flesh exposed from the skeleton bones of potentially good character concepts. I would have liked to see that in a Inglorious Bastards I, II, III.

We've got it on blu ray and I'm sure we'll see it again. After looking up information on the internet about it and finding out the intent was to make a 'spaghetti western' war film; I'll consider that the next time. Unlike the 'westerns' where the legend of people like Wyatt Earp or Billy the Kid can be loosely portrayed; an alternative ending to WWII isn't a cinema escape from reality that let me enjoy it as I probably should, and would have, if the same story and action was on the screen in say the context of a lesser known historical plot line.

Wow, that sounds exactly like Master talking! He thinks that Pulp Fiction is the best movie ever made and He somehow manages to be slightly disappointed in every other movie because it isn't as good. I had to convince Him to give "Inglorious Basterds" a chance because He just KNEW it wasn't going to be "Pulp Fiction." Well, no, of course it isn't

I do see your point. I had to be sure not to think too much about history either. I just had to suspend disbelief for a bit. Thanks for your answer. I was just really curious as to why you didn't love it. Great explanation. Maybe you'll enjoy it more during future watchings

Get Inland Empire  .

I tried to watch that drunk years ago, couldnt follow it at all, tried it again sober, and I think I followed it better drunk!

Inglourious basterds is really good fun like someone said, best film I've seen lately is a german one called "das leben der anden" about an east german playright being spyed on by the stasi.

Angels and demons I hated, it seemed to be written for people with 5 second attention spans, everything that just happened was constantly repeated and re-explained by one of the characters in each scene. and who needs films to be patronising? if i want that I can go and visit my parents!
