I enjoy getting gifts, but mainly the "just because" kind.

Like Merc, my Christmas/birthday gifts tended to be blended.

Well, "just because" you're coming to visit we'll see what we can do! I have a soft spot for those who had a traumatic childhood due to no other reason than having being born in the same month the Christians had to use as the birthday of Jesus to try to convert the pagans who always liked to party at the winter solstice.

Lobbied hard for a while to use the more likely accurate birthday for Jesus - Jesus was born on March 1, 7 BCE at 1:21 AM in Bethlehem, Judea. (gotta LOVE that websites absolutism - Did they find a Xerox copy of his birth certificate in the Dead Sea scrolls?) But then again - what would Santa ride on to deliver presents in March!?

PS - You have CM-Mail....

The truth is, I get a kick out of custom making something that I know will be liked and used.

Problem #4 - I'm terrible to buy a present for the same reason I love giving. As a selfish bastard if I need something or like something - I buy it. Is doesn't leave a lot for Santa to bring me. Problem #4B is that I'm a real bad actor. I appreciate the effort of giving me something, but if it's not exciting or 'cool' or something I need/want - you don't get a big reaction from me.

Thanks for the pressure, Merc! I'll avoid looking when you open mine this year

ETA- that I don't mind getting gifts either

Yup - pressure is on!

Much to beth's chagrin, I use everything you've made for us. Well 'chagrin' sometimes has an odd way of being exposed, but I'd say a "Master - I think I shit myself!" reaction to your paddle was at least a little bit of 'chagrin'; more so when I had to give her two more swats with it for breaking 3rd person speech protocol.

You remember last year - my fun was watching everyone open their stuff. It will be the same this year. Don't forget to bring your Christmas morning Pj's! I got beth a fuzzy pink 'onesie' with feet and a hoodie and 'beth' embroidered on the front.

I have always loved giving gifts.
I have a special appreciation for receiving thoughtful gifts.
One of my very favorite parts of Christmas is Christmas stockings.
There seems to be something still magical about unpacking them, and I really enjoy filling them with small thoughtful items with a bit of the unusual thrown in for good measure.

I love to give...I know I miss the mark sometimes but I appreciate someone saying it is a great gift. It is the same with me I always tell the giver what a great gift it is and how i can't wait to use it.

If I know someone does not have the money to buy a gift...I tell them how I understand and how just their presence at the celebration showing their love is the best present they could give.

Luckily all my family and friends feel that way and at one time or the other we have all been in the position of not affording gifts.

The bottom line is it is not the gifts but the fact they will spend time with you and give their love.

Butch...and i am such a lovable type

Being the crazy, selfish, disconnected, egomaniac, right winged, 'republican' (the only one I'd debate), asshole business owner, capitalist pig, living in 'Merc-land' (and those are the nice things I've been called on CM) I just decided to give my employees the day off tomorrow with pay for '...the night before Christmas'.

I didn't even make them bribe me by giving back the year-end bonuses I gave them last week!

BAH HUMBUG! - Indeed!

Hope 'Santa' brings everyone peace and happiness and the Holiday's reality exceeds your wildest fantasy for it.

Merry Christmas

Everyone!

I wish we would boycot them totally just for one year and all just make something our self to give.

You obviously haven't been in a craft supply store anywhere between late October and mid December. The lines at the fabric cutting tables alone tend to go all the way around the back of the store

PS. I'm hiring Windchymes to wrap my presents next year. I hate wrapping!

Heck, I'll do it for some Capt Morgan's eggnog! Sounds like a party to me!

Well, I wouldn't know about Scrooge, but the one above happens to be a pretty good host and certainly has been known to be surrounded by people having a good time.

But, if the ghost of Christmas future actually spoke, I'd bet he'd have something to say about this thread later on.

(And I'm going to be right there, laughing My ass off!)

I swear, giving you that paddle was a huge mistake. How the hell am I ever gonna make something that will get a reaction to top the "I think I shit myself" story??

PJs are packed, as is the camera. Once again I will have proof that a) you were there, and b) you got stuff, too!
