On a national scale - that optimism can be turned to gloom by spinners.
 
Locally - prejudice in a literal sense, that is judging BEFORE you know the facts. (See about 10 recent threads)

Status: offline 		If I have to hear anymore BS about celebrity's and what they have fucked up....who they are fucking....where they were...what they have done...what they were wearing while they were doing it etc...like it is earth shattering NEWS I am getting an automatic weapon....all you good folks DUCK!....I have never shot one and wouldn't want to hit anyone aside from the obviously stupid and famous!!!!!!
Edited to add....and those who think reporting all of this is important!!!!!!

Actually, I just meant on a national or world scale, as opposed to a personal level.

And SilverMark, what you are complaining about is exactly why I don't watch TV. With the 'net, I can follow something to my heart's content, without having it beaten to death on TV. Honestly, who gives a damn about most of these people? I let 'em get on with living, and thank heavens that no one is looking at MY personal life!

Status: offline 		Maybe because Mark also meant it is ubiquitous, Poosy. There is only so much avoidance you can do.
 
For example I have an email with Yahoo and the home page is literally plastered with the most banal activities of D grade celebities being touted as 'News'. Yeah a couple of clicks later I'm in my mail but by then I want to hit someone. (volunteers?)
 
That the Y generation (and others) lap this shit up only means it will get worse.

Status: offline 		-Discovering the amount of vitriol and prejudice many of my  "fellow Americans" seem to possess.

-Listening to people rationalize irrational arguments( and downright falsehoods in some cases,) because they couldn't be honest with who they are inside.

-Haters. Haters ran amok in '09.

-The news media, as a whole, pissed me off because if the economy or foreign policy got half the coverage of a famous person's comings and goings, perhaps we'd be more informed, and overall more intelligent (and a lot less like mindless sheeple) as a nation.

Well, I didn't dig or drill the wells, I flowtested them, but judging from that, about 30 degrees even under clothes.  Good thing I had a nice warm slave to come in and stick it on to warm it up.

Status: offline 		All the usual suspects that people have stated, plus yesterday, on Christmas eve,..eve...I was told by mine that his tour of duty has been extended.  We only had about a month left and I get this present for Christmas

....yes I am proud of him and yes I know he's doing it for our country and yes I know how brave he is....but as a newlywed that only got to spend two weeks weeks with her husband before he was deployed, I'm going to take some time to myself to be utterly, totally, and throroughly pissed for a minute or two thank you very much

Status: offline 		Hugs to you DrkJourney, I'm in a similar boat, and it pretty much sucks to be away from the one you love, especially a brand new husband, at Christmas time.

Oh, and here's a hug for your hubby, tell him thank you from me for his service to our country...it is truly appreciated.

Status: offline 		Thank you ladies for sharing your loved ones. i can imagine it would be quite hard and frustrating for me if i were in your shoes.

A dear friend of mine from CM is in the same boat. Her hubby (who is hubbahubba handsome to boot)leaves to go serve overseas next month. Military wives, husbands, and SO's that keep it together back home are in a way doing a duty to our country as well.
