Brain -> Michele Bachman is a Welfare Queen (12/24/2009 4:03:11 PM)

At first when I read this I thought it was funny and then I thought to myself and said, WOW! Talk about hypocrisy:

Michele Bachman is a Welfare Queen - The Whited Sepulchre

Michele Bachmann has become well known for her anti-government tea-bagger antics, protesting health care reform and every other government “handout” as socialism. What her followers probably don’t know is that Rep. Bachmann is, to use that anti-government slur, something of a welfare queen. That’s right, the anti-government insurrectionist has taken more than a quarter-million dollars in government handouts thanks to corrupt farming subsidies she has been collecting for at least a decade.

I really should include the link to this list.

Go here for a USA Today listing of legislators benefiting from farm subsidies. The list includes Senator Charles Grassley (R-Ethanol), whose outfit has taken home more than $800,000.00

You're busted, comrade!

Ah, shit... I mean... compadre? Yeah, that's what i meant. Compadre. Not comrade. I'm not in on this conspiracy, I swear.

In a socialist system the capitalist is forced to participate in the welfare.

In a Capitalist System a socialist is forced to work or beg even if they feel their situation warrants social support..

Neither makes the other a socialist or capitalist, it is the reality of the environment, what one must do to a very large extent.

I never heard of her.

I wish to god I never had.

If you like, we here in Minnesota would be delighted to box her up and ship her off to Pennsylvania. Our Christmas gift to you!

Hey kinkroids, when will you learn ? This is America...we are here to make 'get' some fucking money and we don't much give a damn how we go about getting it.

This post about hypocrisy in Wash. is merely to ask...what time a day it is.

ThatDamnedPanda -> RE: Michele Bachman is a Welfare Queen (12/24/2009 11:47:45 PM)

But is there any evidence here directly linking her to any of that money? Was any of that money disbursed to her, or her immediate family? Or was it just paid to her in-laws? Maybe i missed something, but I didn't see that addressed in that article. As much as i hate her, it's not necessarily her fault if her father-in-law is accepting the money. I've got an uncle who voted for Bush - twice! - but that doesn't make me a neocon.

Bachmann voted against these farm subsidies; it is a matter of public record.  Why is this hypocrisy?

popeye1250 -> RE: Michele Bachman is a Welfare Queen (12/25/2009 12:53:46 AM)

Never heard of her. She must be famous.

If there is a subsidy (usually for a reason to make some goods production possible in the US) every business eligible takes it. Otherwise they would go out of business.  Welfare and subsidy are two different things. I would actually prefer import tariffs to subsidies.

Michelle Bachman: Welfare Queen

Bachmann’s financial disclosure forms indicate that her personal stake in the family farm is worth up to $250,000.

They also show that she has been earning income from the farm business, and that the income grew in just a few years from $2,000 to as much as $50,000 for 2008.

This has provided her with a second government-subsidized income to go with her job as a government-paid congresswoman who makes $174,000 per year (in addition to having top-notch government medical benefits).

“If she has an interest in a farm getting federal subsidy payments, she is benefiting from them,” Sandra Schubert, director of government affairs for the Environmental Working Group, told Gannett News Service in 2007, when the subsidies to Bachmann were first publicly disclosed.

Moonhead -> RE: Michele Bachman is a Welfare Queen (12/25/2009 2:12:36 PM)

It's not socialism if somebody fairly well off gets a handout. That isn't redistribution of wealth, like it would be if they were giving money or services to people who actually need them.
