I have a line in the back porch that I do not heat.  It broke just once.   But knowing how I am- the pipes can take alot of cold.   The bad windchill is the no no.

This was my concern, particularly since Lauri spends long periods away from home. A burst pipe is bad enough if you are around to deal with it, but coming home 2 weeks after the fact could be a disaster in a mobile.

There is also a foam to put on it.

It might be wise to let a key with a neighbor or relative to turn the heat up when it gets too cold.

Burst pipes, ohhhh you guys are gonna love this!
My now exbf & I were living together & he decided since he couldn't find a job in Tulsa that he was going to go to Oklahoma City. This was right after Thanksgiving. I get a phone call from my neighbor telling me that we have no water (meaning the 6 trailers in our little Heaven of the world) & they suspect that it may be a burst pipe in my place. I tell them to go in, even if they have to break a window to get in (since 1 of the ones breaking in was the Land Lord who does NOT have a key, I figured it was ok). Well, they don't need to break in because the back door was left unlocked, now I don't own much of value, the most expensive thing I own is a 32" LCD TV, but I worked hard for everything that I do have, and he just left & left the back door unlocked, and not only that, hold on to your hats folks, he completely shut the heat off!!!!! Yes, after I told him to leave the heat on low & let water trickle from the faucets, he did none of that! So my neighbor calls me, tells me that there are no burst pipes, but the pipes are so freezing cold that you have to pull your hand away immediately. He also told me that my water bed was frozen solid. LOL I had to get it through his thick head because he wouldn't believe me until he looked for himself that there was NO water in it LOL, at least not yet anyway, and thankfully so or it would have been frozen solid. Anyway what they are figuring is that ice had gotten into the lines from my place & that it either damaged or burned out the water pump for the well, (I never did get the final story on that).
1st the ex was going to be gone 2 1/2 days, then it was 5 days, then it was 7 days, and when I found out what he did & he text messaged me to tell me that he would be home in a couple of days (total 9 days) I very not so nicely explained to him that the locks were being changed the very next morning & the only way he was coming back was to get his shit & leave (this was after I had discovered numerous lies that he had told me, so no one thinks it's because he was gone 9 days & killed a water pump).  It wouldn't have been so bad if it were not for the fact that we were having single degree temps, and that the pipes could have burst, and I was just lucky that it was not the case.
Ok, so that's my sordid story.  And like I said, I'm just trying to find a way that I can save some money since I'm not there. I'm hoping dispatch will get me at least through the house really soon as I not only need to take care of the situation with shutting doors & setting the heat, but need to swap junk out of the truck to the house & more junk out of the house to the truck. I have learned that is a never ending process LOL You think you need it & you never use it while you're out here.
Now if someone could just explain the theory of why we go to Walmart for 3 items & come out with 10 bags???  I never could figure out that connection either LOL
Lauri
P.S. I highly appreciate everyone's input on this & will keep watching the board for more tips & suggestions.

I know what you mean about liking your solitude, that's part of the reason that I'm a truck driver. I have occasionally taken a passenger with me & after about 2 days I'm ready to kick them out. I just can't stand someone sitting there doing nothing while I'm working & they are getting into my space so to speak.
At Christmas I was at my aunt's house & 40 of my closest relatives showed up (When God said be fruitful & multiply, my family took it seriously...Italian's gotta love them) I ended up actually having a panic attack. Luckily a Dom that I've become good friends with on this site let me call Him & we talked for about 45 minutes which got me calmed down & I was able to quit shaking. So after talking to him & drinking a 1/2 bottle of White Zinfindel I was perfectly fine after that LOL

I had 2 LTRS. One live in one not.  It can be stressful to live with anyone.

I am watching the bills too.

kilowatt meter, get ahold of one of these.  It clues you as to what power is wasted.  Mine paid for itself a few times already.

Here is a propane update.
I had a delivery of 50 gallons of propane. As a new customer they are required to check the system, make sure there are no leaks, and all that. They did all that, and after putting propane in the tank, which was empty, they restarted the furnace. All was fine (I wasn't home, my neighbor let him in).
Now, the Million Dollar Question, if 30 gallons of propane will last me about 1 1/2 months, why is it that 50 gallons only lasted about 9 days? Again, as in my earlier posts, the only thing using the propane is the heat, set on 60. (I haven't been home since Thanksgiving, haven't been able to change anything). My guess, I paid for 50 gallons, but did not get 50 gallons.
Then the same day I find out that my neighbor behind me was plugged into my trailer stealing my electric. My other neighbor seen it & unplugged the extension cord.
You get to feeling like your money is a free for all & that you work hard for everyone else to enjoy the things that you work hard for.
Lauri

My gas is included in my rent, along with all my other utilities.
