Not bad, actually. Just make it gender-neutral and it's rather applicable.

(And perhaps make it clear that you are speaking of "slave" in a WIITWD context, lest any historical purists complain.)

Not really. His quick definition gives the implication that the yielding ("of rights") is happening in a comprehensive manner, in which case "slave" is more applicable than "sub".

Replace the word "almost" with "selectively" and (save for the gender thing) you're pretty much set again.

BTW, what would be the natural unit to measure the frequency with which this term is redefined?

So does "setting aside the free exercise of her rights" describe a sub where for a slave it would be, "SURRENDERING her rights completely to the decisions of another?"
