Re: Passion of the Christ - I had absolutely no desire to go and see this gory two-hour snuff film. Denise, That would be my 'review'. It you made the exact same film and took out the "religious" aspect it would be condemned as censored. Back in the day some of pseudo "snuff" films circulating in NYC weren't that graphic. Meanwhile back to the OP... Most offbeat films: 5. 'Neighbors' (Belushi / Aykroyd prove comic genius and drugs DON'T always combine to make a good funny movie. Animal House proves sometime is does.) 4. 'Night of the Living Dead' (Original) - Black & White 'blood' and cannibalism more effective than seeing red. 3. 'Quest for Fire' - aka "Blondie Meets Neanderthals". No dialog. Came out at the same time as 'Chariots of Fire'; Anybody else walk into the wrong room at the multi-plex? 2. 'Caligula' - A Gore Vidal screenplay, Malcolm McDowell and John Gielgud in staring roles, and a cornucopia of naked Penthouse pets supplied by Bob Guccione, who also gets a Cinematography credit; and have NEVER been able to sit through a complete showing yet. WINNER: 'Pink Flamingos' -- John Waters and 'Divine' as 'Babs Johnson'. Rednecks and swingers competing to win a 'Filthiest Person Alive' contest. Way ahead of it's time for 1972. Divine at his/her best prior to going 'legit' in the original movie version of 'Hairspray' where he/she co-stared with Sonny Bono.
