I fail to see the humour in this. It appears to be an open area so I don't see how the man was a little rude by using his phone.

Yes, it was an open area, but the area was obviously set up so that everyone could watch the musicians. We can't always control when someone calls us (yes, we can not answer or turn our phone off), but you can always say "hey let me call you back" or step away so as not to disturb the other people who are trying to enjoy the music without you adding your own vocals.

I think the musicians got their point across in a very humorous way. The people around us are not typically interested in hearing us on the phone all the time.

I can respond to that with yes I have. Though I can agree, that it is something that I do not approve of if it is personal, though I am an active member of an ERT team, when I'm called I have to answer and go.

And while I can certainly understand that having been on my local rescue squad years ago (before cell phones though), I'm sure that when it does ring (although I hope it is on vibrate), you are quietly answering it as you walk out of the service, not sitting there talking while those around you are trying to listen to someone else.

ERT, Dr., etc. doesn't matter what you do or what your responsibilities are there are ways to respond to the demands of those positions without being rude or intrusive to others.

Amen to that LafeyetteLady - I think that was great. If you are in an area where there is a performance of some kind going on, you should be polite enough to keep the call short, or go out of said area.

ETA - particluarly if you are a Dr, or oncall EMT or whatever ... because, in theory, if you are getting a call related to work, you should be headed out to respond anyway

When I go into a truckstop, shipper, receiver, what ever I keep my phone in the truck. Especially if I'm going in to eat. If you strike up a conversation with someone & the phone rings, I feel that it's rude to interrupt a good conversation to be asked if you want a subscription to BDSM Daily.

I dislike cellphones period, they are annoying and people nowadays seem to forget they are in public...they discuss the most personal things quite loudly in public...the other day I had the good fortune to listen to some twit talking about his sexual escapades of the night before...on the bus

Cellphones. The scourge of todays soceity. The worst i ever saw was in the Royal Theatre in Copenhagen. In the middle of a performance suddenly one of those things went of and, believe it or not, the stupid cow actually answered it. Ok it was a long time ago. I believe today the have some tecnology which prevent them from working in theatres and moviehouses. But a cellphone seems to make a lot of people loose any kind of manners.[:'(]
