The Deception: Unemployment checks create jobs (Nancy Pelosi) The Truth: At first I automatically attributed this to another long list of ridiculous statements she has made like when she told artists and musicians they would no longer have to work a regular job, since their healthcare would be covered under the new healthcare plan. Then i racked my brain to figure out how on earth she could come up with that. This is how she thinks. By continually giving out unemployment checks with no limit on extensions, she figures those people will spend that money and keep existing businesses profitable, and perhaps even expand to hire more people. To her it's a form of stimulus. To everyone else, she's using taxpayer money to subsidize the lifestyle of people who refuse to downsize and/or adjust to their new situation and move in with family or friends. The fact is that any time someone gets money when they didn't have to work for it, they are a liability to society in the long run. Here's a simple analogy. Let's say we have 3 families with only one family making money and paying taxes. The other two families have lost their jobs, but thanks to unemployment checks they can continue to live in their nice home, and continue to live their same basic lifestyle minus a few luxuries of course that working people can afford. So we have one family that works, and the government has to take enough taxes from them to support the other two families. Well there's no way possible way that can work. It can barely work if those two families move in with someone else and the family that works has to pay for their food. Basically, extending unemployment benefits is the worst possible thing they can do, since all it does is attempt to subsidize someone who either isn't working or refuses to work. As you can see by my example, it's almost too much just to provide food stamps for them much less put a roof over their head. By the way, we already have senior citizens, mentally ill people, diseased, and chronically ill people who we are responsible for and we must subsidize since the average family is not able to take care of these people and work at the same time. Common sense would tell you that we can't possibly subsidize young, healthy people other than making sure they get fed if they don't have parents any more.
