In islam, it is considered honourable if clemency is performed, if bin Laden, if he still exists is a true muslim, then he will be open to acts of clemency if his enemy made positive moves towards righting the wrongs he believes they have committed.

What wrongs are those?  Because there appear to be many.

Al-Qaeda reminds me of the Teabaggers in a more harmful form.

There is really no unified goal or complaint.

You just have some people who have grouped themselves together with differing causes and differing goals in what they view as a common enemy.

Assuming you accept Osama bin Laden as the leader of al-Qaeda, I believe his demands have remained fairly constant. You can find wikipedia's list of his messages here. It may take a little work to go through all the links and the transcripts and some of the later ones are in doubt as to their authenticity but basically, I think what al-Qaeda wants is - an end to United States' support of Israel, the removal of United States troops from any muslim country, and the end to our support of what they view as "oppressive" governments in their nations (such as our support of the Saudi Arabian monarchy).

I'm fairly sure that if we were willing to deal on these terms, al-Qaeda would be willing to listen. (Please note, I'm not saying that this would be a good idea - I'm only saying that they do have actual aims and would be willing to negotiate over how those aims could be achieved.)

Edited to add: I also believe that Aneirin is correct and that if an adversary or in infidel seeks peace or instruction, a member of the faithful is obligated to attempt to find a peaceful solution. Violence is only permitted after it has become apparent that no acceptable compromise can be reached.

I wonder what al-Qaeda's (or the Taliban's) list of demands for Pakistan looks like, what their excuse is for hating the people there.

Police: Suicide bombing kills 88 in NW Pakistan

PESHAWAR, Pakistan – A suicide bomber detonated his explosives-packed vehicle in a crowd of people watching a volleyball tournament in northwest Pakistan, killing 88 people in the deadliest attack in the country in more than two months.

The attack in Lakki Marwat city on Friday appeared to be retaliation against residents who formed militias to drive militants out of the area and a meeting of anti-Taliban leaders being held nearby may have been the actual target, police said.

The blast underscores the difficulty Pakistan has had in stopping militants whose reach extends far beyond Pakistan's lawless tribal belt and who appear increasingly willing to strike civilians as well as security forces.

The attack was not far from South Waziristan, where the army is waging an offensive against the Pakistani Taliban. That operation has provoked apparent reprisal attacks that have killed more than 500 people since October.

No group claimed responsibility for Friday's blast, but that is not uncommon when large numbers of civilians are killed. "The locality has been a hub of militants. Locals set up a militia and expelled the militants from this area. This attack seems to be reaction to their expulsion," local police chief Ayub Khan told reporters.

Khan said an anti-Taliban meeting of local tribal elders in a mosque close to the field where the tournament was being held was the real target of the attack, but the driver failed to reach it.

The bomber set off some 550 pounds (250 kilograms) of high-intensity explosives loaded in the car at the field, which lies in a congested neighborhood, Khan said.

Al-Qaeda and the Taliban are two different groups with two different goals. I really haven't done much research into the Taliban since, as far as I'm aware, their concerns are purely regional and focused on Afghanistan and Pakistan. That being said, that whole area around the Hindu Kush has been riddled with inter-tribal conflicts and wars for centuries and trying to work out what the various factions of the Pashtun, Tajik, Hazara, Uzbek, Turkomen, Balochi (and whatever other tribes are there) have for goals or aims is probably beyond anyone's capability.

Which is why most expert advice up until recently was to stay out of the area entirely.

They're on the run together in the border regions of Pakistan and Afghanistan, their ideologies are very similar, and they share strong allegiances.

Two heads, one beast I'd say, especially here lately.

I thought al-Qaeda was busy recruiting and training and plotting in northern Yemen. The Taliban have the problem of being local to Afghanistan and Pakistan, al-Qaeda is free to go wherever our forces are not and I believe they have.

tazzygirl, why are you showing all that hate at me, as I did not claim to be a expert on anything, as by the way you do not know nothing about me to make them type of comments, or my experience or whom I work for or may have worked for or whom I am, ohhhhh by the way I do hide my ID really well because everything on my profile is misleading because shit heads like you, as I trust no one but only myself.

And I do not take crap from no one and yes I will get into their face on here.

doesnt matter to me who you work for, what you do or dont do. i never looked for your profile, and threats are not taken kindly on these boards.

your post about the college students watching from buildings then being attacked by the police during the G20 told me all i needed to know about your knowledge of the situation.

and, please, dont bother tossing out empty threats. you will end up looking like a bigger joke than you already are.

Sanity -> RE: Invasion of privacy or cost of security? (1/1/2010 9:51:29 PM)

According to this New York Times article al-Qaeda is in Iraq, Pakistan, the Arabian Peninsula, Yemen, and North Africa.

Osama Bin Laden himself is allegedly leading al-Qaeda in Pakistan.

bunnyblushkins -> RE: Invasion of privacy or cost of security? (1/1/2010 9:52:23 PM)

yes we can thats for sure as I already started a list. And no its not to early to start one.

bunnyblushkins -> RE: Invasion of privacy or cost of security? (1/1/2010 9:58:13 PM)

tazzygirl here is apart of your post that I took as a Threat and rude comment below:

" I live in Pittsburgh. I know what happened. I know how bad it was, on both sides. But dont come on here like your an expert as to what happened because you read an internet site. "

Oh by the way I do not have no more time to play with you on here sorry.

Thank you as is been a friendly service annoncement LOLOL.

My response

quote:

50000 dollars worth of damage to a Bank... college student

a Bike thrown at a cop... a college student

kids thinking it was funny to mill around a group of protestors who were butting heads with the police... and the college idiots thought they were immune to the fall out.

sorry, i got no pity for the stupidity of college youth. would have been one thing if they were actually protesting. most of them were sight seeing!

and your so eloquent reply

quote:

you did not address a single line of my post, except to ask why im showing you "hate" and then told me to watch out.

youtube is posted by people who show you exactly what they want you to see. many of those videos are half the story and some are extremely misleading. the bank that was damaged, i pass by everyday on my way to work. the damage was real. alot of the damage done to oakland and the east liberty area was very real.

you need to learn the difference between attacking an position and attacking a person. no one attacked you. you came off as an expert in your post... and i stated what you said was not true.

i would think if you are teaching CJ classes, you would have taken one class yourself including something about debates.
