UrMyboi -> How do you define the word boi? (1/1/2010 2:47:16 AM)

When you see the word "boi" do you think submissive man or boyish lesbian?

My first sub called himself a boi, and the term stuck with me.. Now I am hearing it is a lesbian term meaning a boyish lesbian. How do you use the term? What does it mean to you? My user name has boi in it, yet I would say my profile hits are 98% submissive men, very few lesbians. Which leads me to believe the word "boi" has evolved some to mean what I took it to mean, a submissive man.

Thoughts?

I read that post youre referring to too and didnt know the meaning of the term before. Nor did i use it. But yes, i associated a sub man with it. That doesnt mean to me that the word has evolved to something, it just seemed obvious to me. I dont know whether it has actually been 'invented' by lesbians or if it has an older history. With the knowledge i have about the term right now, i'll intend to limit its use to its lesbian meaning.

edit: fixed typo

more edit: according to wp it actually does have some other meanings. Not surprising.

I have no idea how this happened, but the term "boi" seems to be commonly used for both meanings.  There are some posters here, such as boiJen and thishereboi that use it as a boyish lesbian and your username indicates the other use.

Just another reason why kink is not for amateurs.  It's tricky!

I've only heard it used for young/youngish gay guys who were pretty flamboyant, at least until I saw BoiJen's username here. But I haven't really heard it since the late 90's/early noughties so it could very well have evolved.

To me 'boi' = young gay guy, but who is old enough to know what he's doing.

I don't identify with the word "boi", so I can't help you op. It sounds a bit like ghetto slang.....

UniqueRaven -> RE: How do you define the word boi? (1/1/2010 6:39:00 AM)

In the two areas i've lived in the last 10 years (NYC and Austin) i've only heard it used to mean a young, cute lesbian who physically has the facial appearance and features (short hair, flat chest, etc) of a younger male.  i actually seem to be one of the few who was initially puzzled when i read your screen name a week or two ago.

i don't know if it's a regional thing or not.  In Austin we do have quite a lesbian population, so that could explain why i've only heard it in that context.  Seems to be working for you though, and others have experienced different then me, so of course it's whatever you think.[:)]

***Edited to add:  Looks like it does indeed apply to both young men and women.  Wikipedia is your friend, hee hee!

my understanding is a boi is a lesbian submissive, maybe they use it as a degrading term, a thought

LaTigresse -> RE: How do you define the word boi? (1/1/2010 8:08:48 AM)

My experience has always been that it defined a boyish, submissive lesbian.

littlewonder -> RE: How do you define the word boi? (1/1/2010 9:04:17 AM)

It has always meant a boyish lesbian but over the last few years it seems it has come to mean a submissive man. Not sure how that came about but that's what it seems to have evolved to.

This song might have changed the word more than any other single event.  I found the lyrics, but they're spelled "wrong."  It should be sk8r boi, not skater boy.

It was easy.... Daddy / boy is a gay D/s pairing.  So, the subbie Lesbians paired with drag KINGS needed a word.  They pronounce "boi" as "bwaugh", using a fake French accent.  So, it was tre' easy for the straight subbie boys to use the term to distinguish themselves from the gay boys, just as the lesbians did.

So, the two meanings are parallel, boy for gay males, boi for gay females (lesbians) and straight males.  So.... straight female are.....slaves or subs or ?  OOPS!  That topic has been beat to death.... LOL!

Short for boil.

As in, "Is that boi on my ass?"

MasterFireMaam -> RE: How do you define the word boi? (1/1/2010 3:57:52 PM)

First, I think of a submissive butch lesbian. Second, I think of a feminized submissive het male. As previously stated, "boi" was first coined in the lesbian community. It was then also applied in the Fem Dom community as above so that it came to mean, loosely, "a submissive with strong leanings in expressed gender opposite to his or her biological sex." (It is assumed that those who actually have a different gender than sex would use the appropriate pronoun for their gender.)

I do not associate it with any general submissive man, het, bi or gay. They must have a feminine expression of some sort in order for me to associate them with boi. Likewise, a feminine submissive female, lesbian, bi or het, would be a girl, not a boi.

I thought it goes both ways...no pun intended.  :P

trueshadow -> RE: How do you define the word boi? (1/1/2010 7:26:49 PM)

I heard it used both ways.  However, I think there are few male slave who would use the term to describe themselves.  I suspect if it is used in reference to a male slave, it is his Domme who uses it.

lizi -> RE: How do you define the word boi? (1/1/2010 9:46:51 PM)

I always thought it was a boyish lesbian...

your profile is set to "looking for" submissive and switch men...on the search features there is an option to select what the people are "looking for"...this is probably why you get mostly men looking at your profile...

eta: i learned it as a boyish lesbian (later learned about submissives) and i think it was later adopted by young guys on the internet and popularized by avril with her sk8tr boi song...

Ahhhh, nothin' like a New Year to bring back the nostalgia....

For me (when I yousta post at bondage.com way back when), "boi" was the preferred "disemboweller" of several "bad ass" male switches when they disagreed with mighty Dominants (such as yours truly)....

Lets see...., Gregy and Fire are two that come to mind.... Yeah, like I was ever wrong about anything - good times. *wink*
