Hopefully they have a windsock. Last time they were in this situation (vs. Carter) they veered right and it worked out rather well for everybody. We got one of the most popular presidents we've ever had out of the deal, Ronald Reagan.

Another one bites the dust...

quote:

Dorgan says he will not seek re-election in fall

WASHINGTON – North Dakota Democrat Byron Dorgan said Tuesday he will not seek re-election to the Senate in November, a surprise announcement that dealt another blow to Democrats already struggling to protect their Senate majority.

Dorgan, a moderate who was first elected to the Senate in 1992 after serving a dozen years in the House, said he reached the decision after discussing his future with family over the holidays. Dorgan, 67, said he "began to wrestle with the question of whether making a commitment to serve in the Senate seven more years was the right thing to do."

"Although I still have a passion for public service and enjoy my work in the Senate, I have other interests and I have other things I would like to pursue outside of public life," he said in a statement.

Dorgan's decision stunned members of his party, who control the Senate but are facing spirited challenges from Republicans in several states. Democrats were confident heading into the new year that Dorgan would run for re-election even as rumors intensified that Republican Gov. John Hoeven would challenge him in November.

And another one's down:

quote:

Connecticut Sen. Christopher Dodd won't seek reelection, will retire at end of term

Embattled Sen. Christopher J. Dodd (D-Conn.) has scheduled a news conference for Wednesday at which he is expected to announce he will not seek reelection, sources familiar with his plans said Tuesday night.

Word of Dodd's retirement plans comes after months of speculation about his political future, his faltering poll numbers and a growing sense among the Democratic establishment that he could not win a sixth term in the Senate. The news also came on the same day Sen. Byron L. Dorgan (D-N.D.) announced he would not seek reelection.

Once among the safest of incumbents, Dodd's political star fell over a two-year period, during which he moved his family to Iowa to pursue the 2008 Democratic presidential nomination and was linked to a VIP mortgage loan program overseen by a controversial Wall Street financier. He also drew harsh questions about his oversight of Wall Street, as chair of the Senate Banking Committee, in the years when the nation's financial system was heading toward near collapse.

Dodd's poll numbers plummeted last spring before rebounding somewhat over the summer. But another dive in the polls late last year led to widespread concern that Dodd needed to vacate the seat for Democrats to have a chance at retaining it in the 2010 elections.

The democrats are retiring and the republicans (according to their fearless leader, Michael Steele) say they aren't ready to lead yet.

Where is this country heading!!

But Sanity, haven't you told us time and again that the Associated Press is not reliable and can't be trusted?

Or is it they can't be trusted only when it is something you disagree with?

Two more Democratic senators, Dodd and Dorgan announced today that they will not be running for re-election in November, 2010. Maybe that hand writing on the wall is getting a little bigger.

Uh, it isn't because of them worried about the seat, they are leaving rich, and for sure Dorgan is a shoe in if he runs.

Not even wishful thinking (actually no thinking at all).

Nope thats just your bad breath blowing back in your face, is all that is.

Begs the question are those Democrats genuine Democrats.

You mean DINO's?

Let's not complicate things more than they already are.

Next thing you know we'll have Democratic teabaggers.

What I've posted is that they tend to be partisan, and they lean to the left. Does leaning left mean they're unreliable to you? That they can't be trusted?

I guess the "waitress sandwhich" is no longer on the menu at La Brassiere's.
Can you see that visual, Dodd and Kennedy doing a waitress? Yuck!
