Damn more useless classifications...what is a geek? In most of the descriptions above they come off more like having a mild mental illness. Are you saying all intelligent people are geeks...are you saying those with odd hobbies are geeks....Or are you saying people that poke their glasses against their noses are geeks? We all have many sides and quirky behaviors and I'll bet that by established norms we all have a mental illness of one kind or another. Geek Butch

Well I would like to meet some kinky geeks because most of the 'geeks' I have been around aren't kinky at all lol and that just takes the fun out of it.

First, this scene is waaay better from Star Wars [;)]. Websters defines Geek as an enthusiast or expert especially in a technological field or activity (also a carnival performer, but I don't think that applies to this discussion). The derrogitory term used to be nerd, where geek is used to empower. Several movies with characters named "Booger" and Poindexter come to mind. But nerds did more than wear pocket protectors and sleep with their apple computers. They played Dungeons and Dragons, as a young Tom Hanks portrayed in a little known movie once. They read comics, built models, etc... All things that could be comicly ridiculed, and so geek became empowering to all these as well. But in truth, geekdom is a fetish. The pure definition of fetish is only the fixation on a subject.

I don't think I've ever been seriously called a nerd with malice, and if I have it didn't bother me enough for it to register. I'm the type of person who would scream with joy upon receiving a Deadpool belt buckle (seriously, Marvel, get on that already), and I'm completely secure with that. [:D]

Well, there are self made Deadpool buckles here. As for the word nerd, it originated in the 50's, definitely used to demean the smarter more pocket-protector inclined students of college age. Defined as an unstylish, unattractive, or socially inept person. That is why the movie and its many sequels of the same name, portrayed the main characters as bad dressing, glasses wearing, high IQ socially inept young men hillariously dealing with the antics of "nerd" persecution. I thank whatever above there has been no Revenge of the Geek movies made yet... Personally, if anyone had seen me in the 80's, I definitely would have been the textbook definition of a nerd, minus the pocket protector.
