Tal and greetings, I am a Gorean Free Woman the lives by the philosophies that are taught in the Gor books. I know there are a lot of misconceptions about what it is to be Gorean. speaking in third person is basicaly a onlineisum .. Most Free men and Women online have Gorean slaves speak this way because it reminds them of their place. In the books 3rd person speach was not used unless it was to correct the behaveor of a slave. In my time in this lifestyle over the last 7 + years I have talked with many sub/slaves a lot speak this way as a preference it for them shows respect to the Dominants. Also there are some Dominants out there that require it as many here in the posts have stated. I personaly Do not require any slaves to use it.. unless they are bieng punished. It drives me batty too, most of the time. The one time I want to hear it is when someone is apologizing, or some other situation where verbal "grovelling" is involved. IE: This worthless slave asks, at your feet, to be given the chance to redeem himself. Stuff like that. However, I have a beef with it in general, and here's why: First of all, I think that most of the time, it's used as an -attempt- to put the bottom into a headspace that his station is lower. A removal of the ego. But that doesn't happen. Instead, they just substitute "I" and "me" with "this boy" or whatever, which doesn't get the job done, in my opinion. Have him not refer to himself at all, and see how that works. It's HARD to do, for one thing, and will definitely slow him down, but I know from experience what it will do to someone's headspace. I had to write an entire story w/o using personal pronouns, from a personal POV. That took me about two days to do, and it did a number on my head. If I had to think that way for any period of time, I believe it would've been very efficient in suppressing and/or eroding my ego. This is likely something I'll be doing with my trainee in the near future. We did some voice training not too long ago, but we didn't go this deep. Thanks, interesting topic. (: C

My dom doesn't have me refer to myself in the third person, as that doesn't objectify me enough, when talking to him, I refer to myself as it. It does occassionally carry on over to other conversations, but mainly, with him, it is "it did this today sir, and it that.

Good for training, good for slowing speech and causing (one hopes!) advance thoughts about words. Annoying as hell to read, fun to hear. However, there are better verbal predicaments for submissives if erosion of ego and/or "think before you speak" is one's primary goal.

Well, Beatmehrdr thinks it's kind of tough to do. After all, when Beatmehrdr needs to get something off of Beatmehrdr's chest, Beatmehrdr needs to write plainly what he thinks, otherwise Beatmehrdr's writing and speaking comes off awkward, which is no good for Beatmehrdr. [;)]

on one end of the interpretation; the person could be lecturing or quoting ,from a lesson or lecture ,or its their favorite style,of narration,(telling a story)or ,on the extreme side they, maybe ,just schitzophrenic; takes evaluation; ie: putting one trait together ,with another , to come up with the third, or what 2 traits trigger the 3rd resulting behavior or response, so putting two and two together is needed ,for the evaluation and prediciton of that particular behavior(the one in question being:speaking 3rd party all the time). rule of thumb: if its annoying "lets face it: pathology is annoying". some pathologically annoying person drives you bats or its your pathology etc,and visa versa.... or , to the pathological-degeree; it's maladapative,or ,not adaptive speech, or ,simply,not normal. a very large-education- difference ;can ,also account for what you think is abnormal,or abnormal-speech,in this case.

Too many college term papers that make you write in the third person, and maybe some are afraid to say their name or maybe trying to please her in every way possible including degrading themselve as crap like "this humble slave _______"

It is because a lot of slaves or pets do not refer or think of themselves as human. So they should not refer to themselves as such. It is a personal preference and they should not be judged as such.

Go to the Gorean personals on Yahoo or read the John Norman series of books on Gor (26 books) its origination is there! Irritating but effective in putting a slave in their place! Master George

For non-Gorean types, I've heard it from exclusively men. The Gorean users tend to be women. Sometimes I think in our desire to be seen as individuals operating outside of social norm, we have occasion to veer off even our own norms. I/it, "this slave/slut/whatever", or the always interesting genderbending words like "Hir" This is all learnable, but I will admit, in large mixed orientation groups, I feel the need for a scorecard sometimes. -Valky

My experience of myself in that place when I was a slave is that it is more then humiliation, and more then speech training, it is a place that one goes inside themselves, sort of like sub space but not quite. For me it was a place, that can not be submissive enough, grateful enough, obedient enough, prostrate enough...It is a place, where when it happens naturally all by itself, that is deeply rewarding and deeply fulfilling.
