Can someone out there answer this question for me,  I have noticed that some Slave/Sub refer to themselves as a third person when they speak or write, Why do they do this ?  Is it a required standard practice  ? or is it just there style ?  Is there any video's, movies, films or books on this subject ?
I wish to learn more about it and its orgin. Can any of you direct me to some info on this subject. It would be greatly appreciated.

Some people do it on their own for probably as many reasons as there are people that do it.  And others are doing it by order of their Master/Mistress.  I know that I read one post, and I can't think of who the poster was, that said s/he had to type in 3rd person by order of Master/Mistress because it forced her/him to slow down and think more about what they were writing.

I believe that it objectifys them to speak of themselves in the 3rd person.

*nod* I had to do it a few times for the reasons MissTress said.

I really don't like it much in public forums, though, as I find it quite difficult to read. T'weach their own.

most ppl that use 3rd person have been in contact with gor books/fantasie

there is no standard that requires certain beehavior in chat, nontheless over time there have established some assumptions of what is viewed as proper in chat

Yes, the only times I have ever seen/heard someone referring to themselves in the third person was in the #Lobby here on CM, and it is always done by slaves that are involved in the gor lifestyle. And come to think of it, I've never encountered a male submissive or slave that refers to himself like that. Has anyone else? It is almost exclusively females.

Hard to read? [laugh] You should have seen the letter I got about a month ago from a third-person-reference submissive. She was asking advice about her relationship with two other submissives and their mistress.

It was all "she" "her" "She" "Her" "her" "she" until I was ready to call someone from Bletchley Park to help. I had to write back and tell her "If you want help, you have to write me in standard English."

There's a whole forum here about that. Basically it's behavior based on the science fiction series called "Gor."

In my opinion it is just a personal style and there should not be much fuss about that.

My former submissive was instructed as a task to write his e-mails to Me in third person format for a week, referring to himself as 'it'... it was kind of fun to read, and I knew he felt  humiliated in doing so, and then the e-mails continued in this manner, and in person, it would go that way during intense situations.  We still have interaction, and he will often still write to Me in this format.

I did find that between meetings, his use of third person, helped keep him in his pathetic place <smiles>... so perhaps it's a useful tool.

I think many submissives write in this forum in third person to show that they consider themselves 'beneath' those they are interacting with, and others have been instructed to do so by a Dominant, or just have become used to communicating this way.  Many e-mails from males on this site have been written to Me in third person format as well.  I think it can be fun  in small doses, but it would probably drive Me crazy if  it was all the time.

It can be part of voice training or part of humiliation.

I use it in training as one of the many things I try to see how a potential reactions and what their buttons are.

Frankly I don't care for it but it turns a slave on and we are in a relationship then I don't usually mind it too much.

I'd rather a slave was willing to embrace their needs and desires and use words that show a strong connection between those and themselves.

(urg, I wish we had better non-gendered pronouns in English)

I personally can't stand it when people speak/write in the third person, I find it very annoying, not to mention they are objectifying themselves more then I think is mentally healthy. I think its done more in the Gor realm though. But honestly if Im in a chatroom and someone starts speaking in third person or calling themselves "it or pig etc", I put them on ignore I find it that distasteful.

I agree here. Especially for those who don't identify precisely into the two gender categories, and the pronoun "it" is so belittling.

I think it depends on the type of relationship the 'couple' is involved in, or the interests involved.  Objectification and humiliation are present and desirable in many D/s relationships.

I would think spanking, CBT, feminizing, or placing a male in bondage could be just as belittling to him  (or moreso) as directing him to refer to himself as 'it'.  I think it depends on those involved and the effect desired.

I don't really care to see third party usage from those I am not involved with... but, if a male who seemed otherwise compatible had contacted Me in this way...  I would simply have asked  him to communicate with Me differently, rather than placing him on ignore, as tayloring his behavior as I find necessary would likely be done in many forms, why not this one?

Personally, the third person, and the T/typing in R/relationship to W/whom is T/talking annoys me, but hey, to each their own. It annoys me, so I dont do it. Other people like it, so they do it. I just don't read it.

While I don't usually refer to myself in 3rd person, I do love it when I'm forced to do it or told to.  Usually its part of a humiliation or degradation scene (sometimes in conjunction with bondage or exhibition) and referring to myself in the third person makes me feel like less of a person and more of an object.   The idea is to take the me out of the person so all that is left is a toy or thing to be used.   Like I'm too low even for first person.   I don't really get into the Gorean way of saying like "this girl" and whatever, it's still my name, just 3rd person.  So instead of me saying I am your slave slut, I might say instead, maliia is your slave slut.   Does that make any sense?

lucky refers to this sub in the third person because his Owner requires it. It has nothing to do with Gor either for lucky or this sub's Owner, who simply likes the control. Yes, it makes things harder to read and is even harder in r/l conversation, but it is up to the Domme's whims, isn't it?

I don't know where they get it from, but I find it irritating as hell, and if a slave who does it is interested in being MY slave, he is instructed to lose the third person immediately
