Brain -> Trillions Missing at Defense Department (1/4/2010 11:45:07 AM)

I don’t understand this myself, how can this happen with everyone complaining about budget deficits and this is overlooked so easily. I guess Eisenhower was right about the military-industrial complex but what is on this website, I think, is ridiculous.

Trillions Missing at Defense Department

pahunkboy -> RE: Trillions Missing at Defense Department (1/4/2010 11:48:20 AM)

that is so corrupt and it never stops.

servantforuse -> RE: Trillions Missing at Defense Department (1/4/2010 11:53:58 AM)

Your guys are running the show and have been for nearly a year now. I'd ask Pelosi and Reid..

DCWoody -> RE: Trillions Missing at Defense Department (1/4/2010 12:03:37 PM)

That looks like a massively unreliable site to me, there's a difference between not tracking transactions to X amount and X amount being 'missing', I've worked places that didn't track petty cash....didn't mean that money was going missing/being stolen each month, just that we didn't know exactly what it was spent on.....
It did leave open the possibility that the work experience kids were on occasion pocketing the change, but I doubt things are THAT lax....would want to know the context of that quote, and certainly wouldn't believe that sites interpretation of it.

It's a pretty poor job that that military doesn't do a better job keeping account of its spending, but I don't think it's corruption, just disorganisation....although the disorganisation may be hiding a lot that borders on corruption of course, but....with no stiring intended, that doesn't seem to be unusual for the american government. It doesn't seem like the biggest problem the usa has tbh, don't worry about the oil warning light being stuck on when one of the wheels has fallen off.

pahunkboy -> RE: Trillions Missing at Defense Department (1/4/2010 12:22:55 PM)

the 2.3 trillion $ has been missing- it was previously reported- that story is accurate.

DCWoody -> RE: Trillions Missing at Defense Department (1/4/2010 12:27:54 PM)

Well, like I said.....going by the quote it seems like it's just poorly accounted for, not 'missing' (or rather that was the situation 9 years ago). Perhaps you have a reliable source showing otherwise?

You didnt look did you, LMAO the dates go back to 2001, and past up to march of 06  so stop it, you are making yourself look more foolish than usual.
I honestly dont see that this is newsworthy tho, I have to admit, its not new. the figures are old, there is no updated information, sorry Brain I dont get it, its kinda pointless.

thornhappy -> RE: Trillions Missing at Defense Department (1/4/2010 1:03:23 PM)

I share the poor opinion of that site.  Check out all the 9/11, vaccine, etc. conspiracy reports.

These reports were  made in the MSM - what more are you looking for?  These weren't underground accusations.

Brain -> RE: Trillions Missing at Defense Department (1/4/2010 1:21:45 PM)

Sure it's old, but it's about time somebody put in some accounting systems to keep track of things and know what's going on. In a private company this would be unacceptable but they don't care because it's 'only' taxpayers money and I guess they don't think it's real money.

I would ask everyone Republican or Democrat and demand answers. I don't agree it's pointless because I think it's about time somebody investigated what's going on. It could be 10 times worse than Bernie Madoff or it could be nothing but they need to get some auditors in there to do some forensic auditing and get to the bottom of this story once and for all.

mnottertail -> RE: Trillions Missing at Defense Department (1/4/2010 1:25:59 PM)

I posted some of these problems on a very calm thread, and it went nowhere. So fuck it, back to beerhall politics, there are like 341 accounting systems in use by the government, and they can cover the missing funds with a few hammers at 600 bucks a pop, 7000 dollar coffee pots and the like.

Ron

Brain -> RE: Trillions Missing at Defense Department (1/4/2010 2:00:23 PM)

I guess they just want to get reelected and have no scandals so nobody does anything. Too bad somebody like Ralph Nader doesn't do something about this. Hard to believe the accounting profession doesn't have any decent auditors to straighten this mess out.

You're on the right track, Ron, but heading the wrong direction.  What we are probably looking at is evidence of the black budget.  The F-117, just for an example, was completely operational for years before we ever admitted to having the thing, and those $2,000 toilet seats were covering the fuel bill.  Chances are pretty fucking good that we have a few new super-secret toys, and they've found a new hole to funnel the money through.
