Anything painful, and slow.

Lashra -> RE: What do you think is the worst way to die? (1/6/2010 2:57:38 PM)

Something slow and painful like being a stroke victim and unable to take care of yourself or some disease that puts you on your back and all you can do on your own is stare...that to me is the worst way to die. Give me something quick or at least relatively quick.

While other's are saying what they feel their answer to the OP's question, it makes me wonder.

Does it really make that much a difference as to HOW you do go, or what method of death you have put upon you?

Think about the answer. While dying in itself would be bad enough, I fear not the method of which I do go, it is what it is or shall be.

Rather the fear of dying alone when all we want all our lives is to be loved and be with those that we care about. Does not matter if a slow death or speedy one, painless or painful I think. Rather the being alone, knowing that you have lived such a life that no one cares or no one is with you. Knowing that there will not be any remembrance of you after you go. No legacy, no one to grieve, no one to be thankful for the time that which you did have. No one to carry on even the smallest of tasks for you that you loved dearly. To go away un-noticed, un-loved, feeling un-wanted, to go with such a feeling of non-existance.....knowing you have left no one nor nothing behind.

To die such a death to me would scare me more than any method of which I may go.

Cancer.
I saw a 135 kg big man reduced to a crying wreck of 30 kg's. Took over a year and fuck all nothing they could do, but shoot him up with morphin. That made me a firm believer in the right to assisted suicide.
@Pahunkboy. That must be the best way to die in. I always said, shot in the back by a jealous husband at the age of 100. What a way to go[:D]

A.L.S. (Lou Gehrigs disease). My mother died from it and in a year went from walking a mile to complete weakness and death. Your senses are still there but your motor nerves die. SHe died from suffocating in her own fluids.. from not being able to swallow, get rif of plegm and the lungs and diaphrgm not expanding anymore. Horrible thing to die from.

Being drowned by your grandmother in a bathtub would have to be on the short list.

For all the fear of dying alone, my ex often came home from work with tales of dying folk who as it seemed waited for their friends and relatives to leave, in order to let go and die.

I think my ultimate nightmare would be to live with locked-in syndrome and waiting for death.
I also think dying from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is pretty scary.

On Death Row somewhere like Texas where you're innocent but didn't have the funds to prove it.

There are so many horrible ways to die but the one that actually makes me shudder is a method of execution I saw on the History Channel once - the Bronze Bull.

Evil. Just fucking evil.

I have heard it said we are all alone when we die. Makes sense. Usually no one volunteers to accompany us. Have you noticed?

At any rate, it is not the dying that is the problem; it is the letting go of life. I have wondered at times if we are not genetically wired for Acceptance as is suggested by Ellen's comment, although I cannot imagine the gene pool benefit since the dying person is already beyond the age of procreation. Just speculating here.

agreed...add to it numerous relatives that you love dearly holding a vigil in the room all crying and sobbing and begging you to live...blech.

Ashcroft -> RE: What do you think is the worst way to die? (1/7/2010 6:58:20 PM)

I'd always thought burning or freezing to death would be horrible, being alone or forgotten actually strikes me as worse. Since my daughter was born though I've decided the worst way to die would be with the knowledge that my daughter hates me or wants nothing to do with me. Dying, knowing that I was a failure in some way as a dad would be the worst way for me to die.
