Short explanation. The Hellraiser movies is based on a book by Clive Barker, the Hellbound Heart. In it creatures called Cenobites live in an hell like world. They are very into pleasure and pain and have horribly modified bodies, like having nails all over their heads or wounds permanently kept open by metal implants and the like. The Cenobites are not demons in the traditional sense, they are beings from a dimension of perfect order who feel that the flesh is to dynamic and only by punishing the flesh can they achieve order.
Now there is this puzzle box which summon the Cenobites. Once it is solves the Cenobites comes and rip pepole apart and take them to their hell world where they live as the skinless ones, which are well skinless and are tortured forever. A few are transformed into new Cenobites. The movies are generally about pepole trying to escape the Cenobites and sometimes about the Cenobites fighting amongst them self, or even fighting against actual demons or other such forces.
The Cenobites serves Leviathan, the Lord of the Labyrinth. A sort of brutal, inhuman God of order. The leader of the Cenobites is Pinhead, so named for the pins driven into his head. The Cenobites are all dressed in black leather and while the movies try to be about the prpole running from them, the Cenobites really steal the show. I definitely recommend the movies.
