I had a boy cleaning my kitchen the other day. Left to his own devices, he was using an ammonia-based all-purpose cleaner instead of the Fantastik. I lit a scented candle to cover the smell. Wax built up in the candle in a way that it was clear it would soon overflow. I foolishly picked up the candle to move it to a safe spot to drip (rather than picking up a magazine and moving it to the candle to be placed underneath). Naturally, I spilled wax. All over my laptop and a wood table. The boy came and carefully removed the wax from the table as I worked over the laptop. He also assured me that wax is an insulator so it shouldn't harm the laptop the same it would have if it had been coffee, which is an excellent conductor. This simple display of scientific knowledge helped assuage concerns from the - why the hell would you look at a cupboard full of cleaning materials and choose the stinkiest one?- incident. (Also, the fact that he gamely suffered in the ammonia-rich kitchen until the smell spread to me in the other room at which point I corrected the situation.)
