Status: offline 		I haven't seen anything about this anywhere on here and I'm not sure anyone really cares but I'm curious so here we go.

I'm a reader, have been since 2nd grade. Debating and discussing books, stories and ideas is a favorite past time of mine so I'll ask what do the guests of this board happen to like reading? Science-fiction, Fantasy, biographies, historical fiction, etc.,?

Yes! Yes to all of the above. I read damn near anything I can lay my hands on. Sci-fi would have to be my least preferred genre however, and non-fiction histories my most preferred (Through a Distant Mirror by Tuchman is just about the best book I have ever read), however Stranger in a Strange Land is also right up there. Slaughterhouse 5 is good, Lord of the Rings...as a child I adored Burroughs. I read anything I can find by Churchill, he was a master of the language. Currently I am reading a memoir by Hitler's Valet and ploughing my way through volume II of The Gulag Archipelago. I read and enjoyed Speer's Spandau Diaries and his memoir, I have yet to tackle Goebbels' diaries (not for any lack of interest, but simply because I find the diary/journal format difficult to get into). Basically, as far as I go there is no such thing as "light" reading...reading is a lifelong passion, I have loved books all my life, so much so that I taught myself to read when I was about 4 (My older brother was reading us the John Carter of Mars books and my mother made him stop saying they were inappropriate, so I filched the book and just figured out how to read it for myself. I read all 11 volumes of Durant's History of Civilization as well as War & Peace from cover to cover in high school purely for entertainment...so yeah books...bring em on!!

Status: offline 		Yeah, it's hard to nail down. Lots of stuff.

I'm especially fond of Joyce, Hesse, and Shakespeare. I read a lot of different non-fiction stuff, as well as audio-books in the car.

I like reading science fiction, horror, fantasy, paranormal romance and other fantastical literature, I read RPG books, as well as books about the goth lifestyle, robotics and bellydance. I also like to read about Martial Arts, yoga, pilates and alternative medicine. I like to read books about New Age, religion and occult topics, as well as about transhumanism and life extension, Basically any book which is in any way thouches to topics of the supernatural or paranormal or Spiritual is interesting for me to read.

Status: offline 		I read just about anything that is reasonably well written. The last few years I've had less free time to do so but with the nasty weather we've had lately, keeping me indoors, I have been doing a bit more. Usually to avoid a painting that is driving me crazy.

Right now I am reading some fluff for pure entertainment. Dan Brown's latest novel. Who knows what will catch my eye next.

I prefer classic literature and modern pieces that offer breadth and something I can sink my teeth into. Outside of this my choices are typically non-fiction and geared towards business topics and personal development.

In no particular order, I enjoy:
 
Sci-fi, dark fantasy, paranormal romance, historical fiction, mythology, gardening, GLBT studies, psychology, Shakespeare, British lit of the Romantic and Victorian periods, books about spirituality/occult, archaeology, books about the Goth lifestyle, vampires and the vampire archetype in modern culture, bellydance, RPGs, NLP, erotica, and various crafts such as making chainmail or beaded jewelry.

Status: offline 		I could be all smart and say that I have read Marx and Freud and all that, which I have but at the moment I am reading vampire fiction because I am writing a novel on the subject. I also have re-discovered my love for shakespeare after watching the beautiful tennent do hamlet (a play I have never read before)

I go through phases in my reading so pinning it down to one genre is impossible, I like books that make me think which includes a wide variety.
