Brain -> Why I Don't Fear the 2010 Elections for Democrats (1/7/2010 8:36:23 PM)

I think Republicans need to stop counting their chickens before they're hatched. A lot of the talk about Republicans taking over the Congress or making significant gains in the Senate is premature. Having said that, the Democratic performance thus far leaves much to be desired, especially the president's performance on health care reform.

Delaware Watch: Why I Don't Fear the 2010 Elections for Democrats

All the hand wringing about the prospects of the Democratic Party losing control of Congress in the 2010 elections fails to take into account how the Republicans are sabotaging their own prospects in 2010. The GOP is defining itself as the party of the birthers, the tea partiers, the red baiters, and in other sundry reactionary ways. As Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee Chairman Robert Menendez (D-N.J.) says:

"Whether it is the tea party people or the birthers or others, the reality is that the extreme right wing of the Republican Party, they keep pushing their candidates further and further to the right... So, the bottom line is, they are going to be out of sync of where the mainstream electorate is in the midterm election." (link)

Democratic president, they'll get the blame for the economy despite it not being Obamas fault. Over here Brown's getting the blame for it even....same in every nation, last couple of years are brilliant example of weaknesses of democracy. If elections were held now, it'd hurt the dems....but in 6 months (or however long it is) things could have changed.

You sure do start a lot of threads round here.

I think the Republicans should continue to count their chicks now, it is always a good practice for success. The louder they do it the better I like it.

Brain, it'll be awful funny to have someone bring this article up to the top in November.

As both parties are corrupt, it would be better if power is shared; the GOP will get  the Congress and the Democrats will have the presidency. So, fear would rather be if the Democrats maintain their position.

sorry Fellow....... there Should be power sharing right now. the republicants have adamantly refused to join in the process spewing lies and mis-information.

How is there power sharing? Not a single Republican voted for the health care bill, it still passed the House and the Senate vote.

It is how the system works. Call it the fallout of the last election cycle if you like. The Dem's have the power to push through anything they like. That said should they lose power for the lies being told they will lose power just like the GOP did when they abused the trust of their backers.

As to the OP.. I think they are counting the birds in the bush and not those in hand. I heard the talking heads spouting off about how Obama could not win. We all know how that one turned out. What I do know and have seen is that there are a large number of folks fed up with the idiots and liars from both parties.

Not one republican was even allowed to see the health care bill before it was voted on. It was all done behind closed doors.
