I would think stainless or titanium would be strongest for butted rings (like in your picture) but the strongest would be riveted or welded rings. And of course the gauge would matter, smaller the number, the thicker the wire, And with some weaves particularly Byzantine and some persian weaves, the aspect ratio (ring inside diameter -v- wire gauge) comes into play as so far as if it's too far off, the chain won't move or the rings won't close Here's my source for exotic or hard to find rings http://www.theringlord.com/ I am thinking or ordering some SS for a byzantine necklace, a la Viking style. Byzantine would have a fair bit of tensile strength, but still won't have anywhere near the strength of say, 2/0 straight link chain or even swing set chain. It works very well as a leash, and have seen it used in a permanent collar where the links were simply blended into the first links. Your biggest concern, I would think, would be getting a strong connector to your restraints. But then, is your intend a a symbolic restraint, or a full blown, orgasm-induced really-need-to-restrain-them-or-they'll-break-the-bed prison strength restraint? Are you planning on chaining up a guy or a girl? I hope I helped a little, but there are many factors that might determine if it might be a alternate restraint.
