Like most animals, most horses will grow a thick winter coat if they are in good health and properly acclimated. I do not believe in keeping my horses locked up, so to blanket them would put them at greater risk for getting tangled, hurt.

Living in the PNW I should be used to below freezing temps and lots of ice,snow and sleet...but I'm from California! Frost on the citrus was our biggest concern, not having to chip the car from an ice flow in the driveway.

I am sooooo ready for Spring!

Oh deary deary me...we are having a bit of a cold snap here today...it's only 54F (12C) right now...and it will get down to 29F (-2C) tonight. I think I'm a-gonna run over and visit Wyld in my hometown a warm up a bit!

25 F / -4 C in Connecticut.

It's been flurrying on and off here all day, which added about 2" of snow.

Well it is for the Uk and Ireland. Normally our winters are around 34 f in the North of Scotland to 46F in the extreme South West of England. Where I am , Ireland, 37F is normal for January at the moment it is 27f by day and 9f by night. I think its the shock factor more than anything else that is causing the problem. It makes you wonder though is the earth really getting warmer as scientists assume or is the reverse going to actually happen. It sure does not feel warm today in Dublin and it is not snowing though we have snow on the ground with a further 10cm forecast for Sunday. The snow fell on Wednesday and has pretty much compacted each night since. There has been no thaw. I know 10cm is not a whole tonne in American terms but it sure is enough to have our transport network paralysed. We simply don t have the equipment to deal with even moderate falls of snow
