Ditto on this.

I seen this post last night and was wondering what exactly you are looking for. Survey? As in what kind please?

MsCesca -> RE: share your BDSM experiences with me... (3/22/2006 11:14:20 AM)

Hi everyone,

Thanks for your comments.

I want to understand kink as much as I can.  I am a trained scientist and I look for volunteers to help me process the heights and depths of kink.  Let me know if you are interested!

I'm sure, as a trained scientist, you won't mind then telling me what, if any, universe you intend to extrapolate your findings, if you are gathering your data at the nominal, ordinal or interval level and will you be using a .01 or .05 confidence level.

You see, we get a lot of HNGs coming here with phony "surveys" designed to get wanking material.  I am so happy we now have someone from the scientific community offering his or her services.

I await your response.

Ok that last part went way over my head because I am not a scientist, but I dont understand why storys being used as wank fodder would offend anyone.

Is it really so awful to have some one masterurbate to a picture, a post or a story you submit?

And if it is, then dont fill out the surrvey, dont post a pic, a profile, or show a pic of your dog on the beach, on the internet, because once it is in the public domain, folks can and will jerk off to it.

Sad, strange and true.

I guess you have no naughty tales to tell? If you have no issues with sharing kinky stories... post them. I'm wondering why you would rather get into a debate with those that question legitimacy of this survey. Since this is now open for debate I have 2 cents to toss in...

I for one will not feed anyone with fluff for their own physical pleasure or better yet... to fill a book & profit from my life experience.  If anyone is going to be wanking due to my experience, I plan to be there to see that things "go off" the way I want them to <snicker>!! Or better yet... my name on the cover as the author.

No offense to the OP but the way you have expressed your post leads me to believe that you are just looking for kink & that there is no real scientific study involved. I have taken part in many surveys & spoken with several people involved in studies of sexual orientation, human sexuality & related topics. This random gathering of kink presents no basis for scientific study. There presentations always expressed a brief history of the person gathering the information, their credentials & the areas of study they have been involved with. Also included was whether this was a personal study or a thesis. Studies require  demographics of persons involved such as age, gender, orientation, income level, geographical location, etc etc etc.

crouchingtigress -> RE: share your BDSM experiences with me... (3/22/2006 4:37:59 PM)

I dont think i was clear. I was in no way debating the legitimacy of the surrvey, because I really could not care less if it is legitimate or not.

What I was trying to say is, my profile, your profile, this post, even that picture of the rose in your avi, is all public domain and no one has any control over who wanks to what once it has been submitted on to the internet...some one could be wanking away at that clip art icecream cone as we speak, and it would be silly to get upset about it.

MstrssPassion -> RE: share your BDSM experiences with me... (3/22/2006 5:23:03 PM)

true

I myself have an issue with a user setting up a fraud account with my photos on another site.

I understand that EVEN if I never posted a photo on a public domain... simply emailing one will open that image up to capture programs & bam! there you go... images find their way everywhere.

As to posts & what happens to them... well my redneck Daddy always said... never let anything come out of your mouth that your ass can't back up. So with that said & a slight amount of refinement added... I make it a point to be careful about what I post, try to have my facts straight & if I make a mistake... admit to, learn from it & move on.

BUT, my point is why debate this... as you said, either feed the OP with kinky stories or avoid the post. Mr. Warren made a valid point in his post & being that this is a public forum... it is his choice to post what he wishes as he wishes. I support what he said in his post & added my 2 cents... again, my personal choice to be involved with the thread.

I thought these forum boards actually had a creative writing section at one time...

They can, physically, since it's not most people's way to make a lawsuit over such an issue, but posting pictures on the internet does not make them "public domain."  The procedures to do this are specific and the picture's creator must do them intentionally.

The net and the web are not grab bags for intellectual property.

They did but the Communications Decency Act has created such an atmosphere of concern that the operators decided (wisely in my opinion) to delete it.

MsCesca -> RE: share your BDSM experiences with me... (3/22/2006 10:14:01 PM)

Jesus Christ.

Did I start off WW3?  I can't seem to escape this kind of shit.

Participate or not, peeps.  Let's not fight about it.  I want to be the Kinky Kinsey, okay?  I am collecting data for a book.. not a dissertation.  Been there, done that.

I am a biologist, a hard scientist.  It is impossible to use the scientific process as I have been trained in observing behavior.  I am sorry but psychology and behavior, as we know it now, is a soft science. But this topic is one near and dear to my heart and I am trying to be as scientific as I can.

My survey has been designed to be as inclusive as possible on kink behaviors.  I have questions that can establish parameters like age, sex, orientation, education, etc.  I have sent it to the nilla community to get "normal" responses.  I have tried to overcome biases like people fabricating because they want to impress a lifestyle dominatrix of 13 years experience (uh, that is me, by the way) by sending out random queries on forums like this.  I ask people to spead it around so I am removed from the process.

I can't make people do it.  Therefore there are some biases I cannot overcome.  But as long as I acknowledge the baises the data can remain meaningful.

As far as stats, in biology a p of greater than 0.001 is meaningless.  Did I pass your test?  Am I considered a real scientist now?  Would you like a copy of my CV to be sure?

Sigh.  If you want to do it great, let's stop attacking each other now.

You left this part out of your original request for surveys.

perverseangelic -> RE: share your BDSM experiences with me... (3/22/2006 10:53:26 PM)

We're not attacking, it's just that some of us are uncomfortable with our lives being used for titilation.

For me, I don't mind offering information for most purposes, but it weirds me out to think that someone's asking just for their....prurient interest.

In reply to CrouchingTigress,
It isn't that i'm offended at providing jerk off material. My hesitance is twofold. FIrst, if someone wants jerk off stuff, I think it'd be better received if they asked honestly, instead of fabricating (I know the OP isn't doing this, but many many do.) That is, I'd much rather someone say "Stories about women in heels get me hot. Have any to share?" than "I really don't understand how women in heels could be arousing. Can someone tell me their experiences?"  Second, it -does- make me uncomfortable to know that a story I've told will be -unwitting- jerk off material. I post stories and pictures on the net that are designed to arouse. With that, it's a bit different. But something about my daily life, that i'm telling in the hopes of sharing info is a different story.

Psychological research also uses "hard science" statistical calculations, just to let you know.

Be well,

Funny, I thought I was asking the same questions I'd ask any colleague.  If I ran into you at a, let's say a conference of American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, and you said you were conducting a survey, I might well ask the same questions.  Would you consider them an attack there?

As a former professional market researcher, I'm a uncomfortable with the validity of web or email based surveys.  I'm sure you might feel the same with someone who declared he'd sampled an ecological subset by looking only at the creatures that jumped onto his picnic blanket.  I'm looking forward to seeing how you can overcome the self-sampling bias.

Thank you for your offer of a CV  I will look forward to receiving it.

TeeGO -> RE: share your BDSM experiences with me... (3/23/2006 8:43:34 AM)

Wow.

What I think happened in this thread is the OP made their request.  Some, questioning the motives and validity of this, ask simple questions, which is of course the right and proper thing to do.  A third person jumped in off topic and brought about an atmosphere of contention, thus when the OP returned she felt slighted and got a bit aggressive.

A shame.

If the third party had not come in and created this contentious atmosphere (innocently I'm sure, not their intention it just happened.)  I bet this Q&A would have been much more congenial.
