MasterK13 -> How has the lifestyle changed in the last few years? (1/9/2010 10:04:22 AM)

I was inspired to post this by a similar topic discussed in one of the chat rooms only it was on how younger generations are affecting the lifestyle. Personally I dont think the dynamic has changed as much as the toys used in the lifestyle thats just my oppinion though.

I've been doing this for more years than I care to mention but I personally have seen no changes. It ebbs and flows.

No single one of us has enough oversight to comment on the whole of the lifestyle.
It diggers considerably in appraoach Stateside to britain and then again britain to central Europe (especially Germany) and then again Jaoan.
However if I were to try to conceptualise how in my experience it has changes it is exactly to do with the open mindedness and diversity of those who are much younger than I coming into the lifestyle.
I spent many years desperately afraid to come out. There were years when not only was sexual diversity considered perverse but actually also it was trtechnically illegal to be anything other than heterosexual. Codes of conduct within what was known as trhe leather community were ebolved to protect individuals.
How times have changed.
Now heteroflexibility, pansexuality and evolving sexual and power orientations are far more widespread.
I myself feel less restricted. I feel more accepted as a bisexual switch. Actrually I'm not even comfortable with labels but there are those who fought hard for the right to ID themselves and therefor feel the need to ID me.
I am personally happy to be defined by the one who owns me at that time. and I feel I have a right to define those who would submit to me.
Vive la difference and thank god for young blood.

i started in 1985 and you had pretty much the same cast of characters, only now with more people doing bdsm from the comfort of their homes at their computers there's a lot more noise to filter

I started a thread some time back about younger people coming onto the scene and have things changed or not and didn't get a positive response.

The way I look at it is this. We need new blood because without new blood we fester and eventually become extinct. More and more of the younger crowd are coming into this and I think we should be embracing them with open arms and not the scorn that (I believe) a lot of the youngsters have to put up with.
Yes we are seeing changes. Younger people are starting munches with age limits on them. I think that's a shame as it immediately creates a 'them and us' situation. There are whispers of a club starting in London which will be 18 to 30 which immediately segregates us.
On the other hand I can understand why they are doing it but I still think these are changing times and not necessarily positive ones.
I wouldn't dream of walking into a vanilla night club over here because I would just feel ancient and I really don't want to feel ancient. The one thing I love about BDSM clubs is the diversity in age. It really shouldn't matter how old you are so long as your into this and know how to enjoy yourself.

I agree media focusses more on female Dominance in my opinion not that there is anything wrong with that but how often do we see Male Dominate's on TV?

You may find this interesting.  http://www.collarchat.com/m_2990197/tm.htm

The question was posed in the Mistress section just a few days ago.  There were a few more on the same topic recently since the turn of the year.
