I'm a Liberal Democrat, upon going back over a few of your posts, I'm not quite sure where you stand. Therefore, I'm uncertain as to which "truth" you're talking about. I'm pretty sure that my side is the right side, though. Seems to me that the other side is only concerned with their own selfish interests and have no care for their fellow human beings. Ayn Rand's conception of altruism is a parody, she can't know true altruism as she does not posess it, much like all those that preach small government and no health care reform. They fail to see the big picture.

Sorry for the cross polinization of threads Thadius.....but whatever else came of it your annexing of Venezuela seems like a capitol idea.....plus it was good for a laugh.

For a liberal to espouse impearlism is interesting to say the least.

Just for shit and grins I'm wondering why I would "refute" that which is undeniable history.....yes thompson we were militarily involved in all of those areas.....I had thought the argument was over motives and agression...I now see you were simply looking for confirmation of events...

It was and still is about motives and aggression.

.more free advice ,all of the question it seems you are in need of answers too...can be found using "google"

I have over 4000 posts so it is a little difficult to get a sense of me from just a few.
In this particular thread I have taken the position (that is historically correct) that with the exception of Alaska all of the U.S. was acquired by force or its threat.
And
That every war we have been in we have either started or have instigated our involvement in for purposes of national agrandisement.
On a broader note I am in favor of single payer national health care.
I am in favor of outlawing all corporations.
I am in favor of using the RICO statutes to prosecute those who hire illegal aliens...(that would be confiscationg all their shit and throwing their asses in jail like we do with "drug dealers" like Noriega).
I am in favor of equal pay for equal work.
I am in favor of abortion on demand.
I am in favor of free public education from K .through multiple PHD.
I am in favor of energy selfsufficiency through conservation and alternative energy sources.
I am against any more nuclear plants until such time as a way can be found to safely deal with the waste products.
I am in favor of charging those who mine, farm, graze or harvest from public lands be charged an equitable fee instead of the "give away" that now exists.
Now that you have fallen helplessly in love with me I have to warn you that I am not only GUD (geographically undesireable) I am also a little old for you

Ayn Rand is the darling of the neo cons because they do not read her in her entirety. In her make believe world all of the plutocrats are also imbued with the spirit of "nobles oblige" which of course they are not. So Liberatarinism is simply those who want to return to the "old ways" without the responsibilities that nobility entails.

I had a sneaking suspicion that you were liberal like me. I was confused by your side bar since it was so generic sans identifying picture. I like pictures!

My pictures are on my profile. I save my dirty pictures for either special people or my public. I am an exhibitionist, though I do try to put a brake on that!

Chavez criticizes US as arrests stir concern

QUITO, Ecuador – Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez on Friday defended the arrest of a major TV channel owner, calling him a criminal and denying the government is carrying out an assault on press freedom.

The back-to-back arrests this week of two government opponents — including the owner of Venezuela's only remaining anti-Chavez TV channel — have drawn accusations that Chavez is growing increasingly intolerant and authoritarian as his popular support has slipped.

Opposition leaders and human rights groups condemned Thursday's arrest of Globovision's owner Guillermo Zuloaga, who was detained at an airport and released hours later after a judge issued an order barring him from leaving the country.

Zuloaga is accused of spreading false information and insulting the president at an Inter American Press Association meeting in Aruba last weekend, Attorney General Luisa Ortega said.

<snip>

Chavez also took a verbal jab at U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, accusing her of being out of touch and saying she seems more and more like her predecessor, Condoleezza Rice.

"She still considers herself the imperial lady. She is behind the times," Chavez said. "She still thinks the United States is the owner of this continent." His complaints were echoed by Ecuadorean President Rafael Correa, who said his government would prepare its own report on human rights in the United States. The State Department has said harassment and intimidation of the opposition and the media are on the rise in Venezuela.

Clinton said earlier this month during a Latin American tour that Chavez's government is limiting freedom and should restore "full democracy," and State Department spokesman Mark Toner has expressed concern about Monday's arrest of opposition politician Oswaldo Alvarez Paz.
