FR "I certainly HOPE that the human race isnt the best the universe can accomplish. " This is not in direct response to that, but I decided to quote it. Someone said "I hope not in my lifetime". People are talking War Of The Worlds. Don't you see how that is a reflection of yourselves ? Possibly even a projection, in psychological terms, that you think they are here to take something, that they are greedy and malevolent somehow how, why ? Why is it so easy to jump to that conclusion rather than be intrigued by the possibility that they really are just out to explore the universe around them, and that they actually do come in peace ? I am sorry to go on but this just exploded in my mind. Is it possible that we find it hard to believe that they would truly come in peace because we do not come in peace ? Think about that for a second. We do not come in peace. Even our puny moonshots were an attempt at supremacy, and I bet they thought they would find some dandy minerals there. You can watch Star Trek an Lost In Space all you want, but do we have that adventurer/explorer spirit in us ? I would welcome aliens, I would work hard to break the language barrier, which I don't think is quite as easy as depicted in fiction. It would be too fucking good really to meet real ETs. It is actually illegal in this country. (like I care) I would love to learn to communicate with them, learn their ways, beliefs and so forth. Learn some of their games if any, teach them to play pinochle and poker. Maybe at some point find out if we are compatible sexually. How their society is structured, and explain ours, to the best of my ability at least. The worst that could happen to me is I would die, and that would probably be by accident. They didn't come a gillion miles to get my PIN numbers and steal my wallet, or my car. Shit they got an interstellar craft, what would they want with my junk ? If it turns out they are here for the water, we got a problem, but if they come here for gold, take it ! Take all of it. I'll even tell them where I think it is. And in guessing that folks I would be alot warmer than you. It is not in Fort Knox. This would be the opportunity of a lifetime. Even though they came here it would be an exploration of sorts for me. I have dreampt of such things. Even knowing the ramifications, I would go with them, even if I would not be returned untill after the death of everyone I know. Maybe I really understand how curiousity killed the cat, but risk is a part of life, and my gambling instinct tells me that odds are this would be worth the trip. Fear all you want, live in a hole. That is your life, not mine. Despite my obligations here, this would be a once in a lifetime chance. If I didn't take it, why did I bother to be born and survive this long ? T
